So glad this version of Space finally got their flagship. Last year someone pointed out this theme was just missing its massive ship like all the other original lego Space themes had. Not only did they deliver on that but really worked in the modularity well. I really hope this version of City Space sticks around a bit longer.

The fact that they give you little caps to seal the space station off is such an important thing for kids who want to imagine it's actually in space. Or anyone really. And the fact that each module works so well together is great. In my opinion the set is at its best with the habitat module separate and the rest as the space ship. I especially like the fold out bed in the habitat section. And I so much prefer the diagonal print on the space men.

Those fold away “Easter egg” kitchen and beds are exactly what a space sub theme set needs and it’d be nice to see even more of that with the other sections and other sets. Also the cargo pods should come with more supplies like food, power units, etc. Not only to enhance the build experience of discovering hidden elements, but add to the authentic feeling. Really hope they keep improving on what is an amazing set.

This looks like an amazing ship! I love that they included 2 spare "caps" for the modules [and always nice for the figures to be able to take their helmets off and not be bald]. I think this is one yet another one of those sets that looks better built than it does on the box art. I would love to know why they decided to release this in January, rather than part of the the summer wave last year. They released another small City Space set this month too - a poly bag mech. Aaaah, to be a fly on the wall in their marketing department. I was really a fan of the smaller sets last year that use this modular system, so this will be the biggest set from the theme that I purchase, and I am just fine with that. :) Thanks for the great review, as always! And...a little something to help show appreciation and offset the costs of these sets [ever so slightly!]

I have really liked the city space sets of rhe past year or so, but this is the set that retroactively made me want to get the other ones. More than the Blacktron remake that came out at the same time, this model inspired me to make new attachments/modules, different cockpits, assign roles to the new figs as higher officers in each field, and the list goes on. This set bleeds creativity and I hope they make more like it.

I'd have to agree about the "completeness" of the modularity. Nothing seemed missing after breaking it down to smaller pieces. Very nice.

I modded mine. Added some VTOL thrusters underneath the wings and some of body, added some minor lights and small greebles, added some printed control panels in the cockpit as well as a battery level printed tile (every set comes with a spear so I always chuck it in the cockpits coz it just makes sense that the pilot would want to know how much power they have left), added some small winglets on the little storage box modules and completely removed the wall separating the lab and work station modules. Makes it feel more like one large ship. I did that with some of the space station modules too.

Those sound like excellent changes and modications. Probably the most interesting part about any set is the customization. It still needs to be a good base set, that inspires all those changes, this definitely is more than sufficient in doing so.

This retroactively makes 60434 much more enticing. Connecting this ship’s ‘base’ modular to that set, especially with the science lab add on, greatly expands 60434 and the main thruster of the big ship can swapped with the launch pad ship too, further customizing the set up.

@@lancefisher8358 Yeah, the Modular Space Station is kind of underwhelming compared to the two Lunar Space Stations, since the central Ring isn't really USED for anything other than being a hub. Even the Space Science Lab feels like it uses the system better.

I hope this sub theme keeps going, even if only 1-2 sets a season. I really like the new Futuron inspired suits, and everything is just so cohesive in design. I would especially like some kind of hub module with airlocks on all 4 sides, to connect all the other modules to.

That would be awesome. I modded one one of my space science labs to have a pod connection on adjacent sides instead of opposite sides so that I could get more then just a line. One could also mod it to have three pod connections.

i think this really compliments the little space base released last summer, like each one of those is a neat little base on its own but put them together and you really have the makings of a colony. between them it’s about 150cad worth of stuff, and that feels really good to me, there’s so much play to be had in either of those sets and putting them together can make something really special. ive seen singular ninjago mechs go for about that much, and yeah that’s a lot of toy, but all the different modules with this set and that makes for so much more physical play, im a big fan

A big command ship was something missing from last years lineup. Sounds like were just getting this Ship and a mech suit polybag to sign out this version of lego city space. The play value with this spaceship is so much higher than what you get from a Star wars set as an older fan less thrilled with stud shooters and more with the diorama rama of the builds. The minifigures new suits homageing some classic space prints is also lovely.

I agree on that they should keep this up for as long as possible. It is interesting though, to know how well these are selling. There is very little actual hype going on, but people all seem quite positive about most of last year's wave and even more positive about this one. For real, I'm not seeing massive sales here like we see on medieval themed stuff (medieval themed anything to be honest), but it can still be a very steady, long term sales stream. This is also excellent for kids, as the playability and longevity of these sets are absolutely amazing, especially combined with the earlier ones.

I tried ordering one jan 1st, but it was immediately on backorder, is a dead giveaway that the designers struck space crystal with this one. The modularity of this theme is the whole point, with the whole airlock piece, so I'd have been surprised if they'd tossed it out. Nevertheless it's great that they kept it -and- added to it with the double clips. And the medbay is so well-made! Currently looking for a way to hook it up to my planetside spacebase. Give us more of this, LEGO! Very happy with this one.

This set strongly reminds me of my childhood favorite 6984 Galactic Mediator. Being able to mix and match sections whilst still having a good interior and connecting with other sets in the line, absolute peak.

I remember when I was a kid I had a Space Police one that broke up and could be re-arranged and re-configured like this. It was absolutely the best feature of any Lego set I ever had, I was always switching it around for different missions and things like that! This looks like a brilliant set.

This set is exactly what the line needed (had huge crane base, dome base, 2 big rovers, a nifty small starship and a medium transporter and a space station) . This is the bigger modular starship that doesn't just look like a train in space. I LOVE this set so much . I love the modularity of a lot of recent lego themes. The Hogwarts from a few years ago was amazing because it was completely modular. While I was waiting for more sets to release I was able to make it all look good until I could get the entire castle. Got these from last year for my niece and she loved them.

This theme has been my favorite for this last year. I love the near futuristic design philosophy. I was never a big fan of the more realistic NASA inspired sets. Out the 11 city space sets I'd say probably 8-9 of them have been solid 8-9/10. I really hope the continue the theme and add some new factions like emergency rescue and response or something. Would love a really big 2,000-3,000 piece, mass person/cargo transport ship that can hold at least 4 of the standard modules. Would also love a more sizable alien terrain/village set.

This is what I love about your videos, you show the versatility in a set if there is one and this set is sooo versatile that you can give this to a group of people and you will always have different spaceships. One of the best and biggest Lego sets I ever got as a kid was the Ice Planet Deep Freeze Defender(still got it!). I got a ridiculous amount of play out of that with its different modules that could be separated. This ship reminds me of everything great about that set.

just build this over the weekend and it is a lot of fun. I too enjoy the modularity. I wish we had a couple additional items to clip onto the side. Interestingly enough my wife was bothered by the lack of passthrough on the tools module and the main front section so we removed three 1x2x2's. other than that, yeah can't wait to try combining with other modules and heck if i find this on sale may grab a second.

This theme is practically Futuron II ! The logo is almost the same, the color sheme is almost the same, now even new minifigs are almost the same and on to of it comes out in parallel to Blacktron sets (and after a Classic space set). I say reimagined Space Police I set is right around the corner!

The thing I wish they would do is release a set with a pair of airlocks at a 90 degree angle. So far, everything has to be in a straight line. I want a little more variety. Otherwise, I might just have to make my own custom airlock. This set was really fund though. It was a much needed addition to the line.

Agreed. One opportunity they had is putting airlocks on more than one side of the Space Base and Science lab. The blank sides with windows just look a little out of place.

A great addition to the City Space subtheme. Very much reminds me of aspects of Classic Space where you could separate part of a larger ship to deploy a smaller base of some kind. Which has always been a great play feature (and sometimes helps with display space too), especially this one with the different ways you can arrange it between the wings/jets, modules, and the storage pods. Not to mention these are compatible with the previous Space subtheme AND some of the aquatic ones they did. Am I the only person that bought the orbital station just to have more modules? I don't really care for the ring base's design.

That is absolutely fantastic. Absolutely. You can't do all of everything in Lego, of course you can't, but man alive, does that ship make me wish I did more Space - and had more, too. The amphibiousness of these modules - the central module and neck being useful for ground-base habitation units or etc. - is inspiring. The shuttlecraft (I guess it's a detachable flight module/cockpit, so..."Bantam-class?") is just the nicest ship. Space fans are eatin' well this weather. Even the Marvel ships...man alive, the adventures you could have. The things you could build. I'm still building my comic shop, though! :)

I love the modularity of this. It reminds me of Space sets from 80s and 90s. I would though prefer clear windows and canopies, or some sort of wacky color like those old space sets. The trans black barely lets you see through it. Other than that, this set looks pretty great.
