It's deeply telling that Junior mistakes Janice for Livia. Even in his demented state of mind, Junior has _just_ enough mental clarity to recognize that Janice is trying to manipulate him. I find it interesting that he unintentionally observes that Janice has slowly turned into a Livia-esque figure by that point in the show. The way she acts in this scene (and throughout the entire show) shows that she really hasn't fallen far from the tree, so to say. By the end of the series, Janice has effectively taken Livia's place as a cloying, emotionally abusive matriarch.

It comes as no surprise to anyone that Janice is a plotter in getting her wants in the most conniving ways. She personally loathes her uncle, to a point she once suggested Tony in putting him in a home so the family can do away with him. She has the living gall of visiting Junior, in frail health situating in a mental facility, purposely to plead for money now that Bobby is gone. It's licentious there are those like Janice who can go any lower in manipulating people to satisfy their ravenousness for greed.

@Komnen0s
@Komnen0s 4 жыл бұрын
Aida Turturro is one of the more underrated actresses on the show. She's able to perfectly (and subtly) bring across how manipulative and self-serving Janice is without ever overdoing it. I always find it frustrating when people rag on actors/actresses who play characters that are difficult to like, so I would hope that most fans of the show aren't doing that with her or Edie Falco. I know Anna Gunn got a lot of hatred from fans of _Breaking Bad_ because the character she played was kind of cold and distant (although Skyler ended up making lots of correct observations that Walt ignored), so it's unfortunate that this is such a common trend with popular shows and movies.

@JohnSmith-mk1rj
@JohnSmith-mk1rj 3 жыл бұрын
I doubt they would let a baby into such an environment. A baby is quite likely to upset many of the patients there or some very untrustworthy individuals might be drawn to it... Lastly, the baby might pick up on the mood in the place and be disturbed, and that's probably not healthy for the baby. Any way you look at this, it doesn't seem like a good idea.

Janice was the easiest character to hate. The spite on her face at 1:14 as she takes the photo back - she doesn't give a shit about Junior, just wanting his money. If anyone in the show deserved to be taken out, it was Janice!!!

Junior's dementia has by now reached the point where a straight conversation with him is impossible. What is "Oodrepidizee"? And what is "Ambassador Hotel" supposed to mean? (Absolutely nothing. They merely underscore how much Junior is detached from reality.) Kudos to Dominic Chianese's acting chops. How he gives Janice the dirty look, made even more menacing by his callous and crooked mug, is both spot-on and unsettling to watch.

I don't think junior really gave a shit about anybody. He was too insecure. Remember the time he sent his friend to get the car without his jacket, just so he could steal the coins from his pocket? Or the time he sped off without Bobby when the feds were arresting people at the funeral? Or the time he kept curving that old lady who tried to be his friend because he didn't want to be old with her? Or the time he dumped his girlfriend of 15 years because she let slip that he licks, kisses and sucks on her genitals? Or the time he tried to kill his nephew because he wanted the title of Boss, then accepted a deal where he was boss in-name only? "The man is driven in total by his insecurities". People like this can't love. All other feelings are pushed-out, and overwritten by their insecurities.

@Nicolaa88
@Nicolaa88 2 жыл бұрын
I believe he literally saiys "a tripp' di zieto" or "zieta" that means "your uncle's/aunt's belly". It is an archaic idiom, used in Campania (where the Soprano family ancestors lived) to react to somebody's prank. Quite funny how it sounded familiar to me as my relatives are from that Italian region too and they used to spell it occasionally :)

Just for clarity sake, he doesn’t say “I put it out…” He says “She left my stove on, on purpose. Put the flame out with a wet dish rag. I caught her.” He had a gas stove. Janice snuffed out the pilot light with a wet rag. So now he has a gas leak. Essentially, she tried to murder him.
