The soviet union actually had some steel left from the cold war, so they used to build those damn solid latvians

haha :D Unfortunately Soviet Union destroyed a lot of Latvians during the war, completely destroyed our economics which at the time was one of the leading in Europe, and totally stopped any kind of progress during the occupation, so in 1991 we had to start all over again. Today in 2021 we have come a long way, but still long way to go. So yes Soviet Union is responsible in some way in strengthening Latvian identity, Latvian spirit, and mindset to work hard and always keep fighting! But other than that - we hate them! ;)
