Hi Baby girl! What you hear & see was nothing compared to being "down in front" - or on-stage doing the light show. Janis transcended "the blues", and it tore her apart inside. Be safe - I'm moving to Ghana.

@nikkihatfield20554 жыл бұрын
Racist Infidel I wish to God I could have seen her live! I would love to hear you describe what your experience was like! I’ve actually dreamed that I was at her concerts many times! My mother told me that she would strap me in the baby carrier and put me in her Mustang (I don’t think her Mustang had seatbelts, it was a 1965 1/2 I’m not sure why it wasn’t just a 1965 Mustang) and pop in her 8 track tape of Janis and I would wiggle around and move my feet with her. I was born in early March, 1970 and Janis died early October of 1970. I don’t really remember listening to Janis on my own until College and that’s when I instantly felt a deep connection with her. I had a video tape with interviews of her and live performances! I had her box set, plus the box set of the Monterey Pop Festival (which was put together by the Mama’s and Papa’s. The lady they show in the audience wearing the sunglasses when Janis sing’s “Ball and Chain,” is “Mama” Cass Elliot, another amazing singer you should definitely ck out)! My mother tells me all the time that she weened me on Janis since I was a baby! Lol! I definitely connect with her spirit and as you mentioned, I FEEL her bluesy, sad, longing, huge heart and soul. She sang everything with her whole being. Truly tragic.... on her very last album, “Pearl,” she recorded “Me and Bobby McGee,” the day she died. She was supposed to be at the studio in the morning to sing the last song for the album. Not knowing for many hours later that Janis lay dead from the prior evening, the band went ahead and laid down the instrumentals. That’s why the last song on the album is just the band’s instrumentals. I always wondered what the words would have been and how Janis would have sang it. I guess we’ll never know. The album was released posthumously and received not just awards, but critical acclaim! Too bad she wasn’t around to enjoy the one thing she wanted most, acceptance!

There is a reason why she was know as and forever will be the queen of the blues. I was about 6 or 7 the first time I heard Janis and she instantly became one of my first crushes and it wasn't for her looks. It was her voice all of the soul and feeling and passion she had got me and hit me in my soul instantly. Music was and has always been my first love and when you hear someone like Janis at a young age it is impactful.

As you may guess by my handle this song is my favorite by Janis and one of my tops in general. Myself being only 28 I was not introduced to her music until quite some time after she passed. It was a tribute performance by Joss Stone & Melissa Etheridge at the 2005 Grammys. I remember my Dad being excited to watch it saying that my Grandaddy, who passed before I born, loved Janis. Soon after I bought her Essential cd. Truly being a fan of her music and knowing in the back of my mind so was my grandfather brings a since of connection I never had with him and her music will always be special to me.

I don't know why for me this song has a super positive message and really empowers me instead of feeling sad. I think the meaning of love in this song is something global, not only directed to one person, and encourage you to use de love and the fire inside of you, your talent. And yes I'm 25 years old now, and I'm not better than when I was a girl. I only have more experience and more traumas, but the fire has always been inside. Born and dies with us, we can try to be better, but there is no goal in life, and this is not a negative message

I read the biography by her sister. She said that people would take heroine in those days, to come off LSD. Janis had a supplier who made sure the heroine was "safe". He wasn't available so Janis took a chance on an unknown supplier and that was what what killed her. Janis's sister obviously wanted to protect her sister, so I don't know how much is true. But it's a sad, sad loss

This was her second band, which featured Sam Andrew (from Big Brother) on guitar, a bunch of Bay Area professional musicians as full-time members, and a number of session players added on the record. It suffered from a lack of seasoning and a lack of leadership: Janis never seemed sure whether she wanted it to be a loose, jamming psych band or a tight soul band, and while both Sam Andrew and Snooky Flowers (baritone sax) tried to take leadership roles, she wouldn't stand behind either of them or lead the band herself. So it's a bit unfocused. Her last band and last record after this one, PEARL, was generally considered her best work, and for that one she finally stepped up and led the band.
