Masterclass with Professor Janne Saksala in which they work the piece Elegy no. 1 for double bass and strings, in a version for double bass and piano, by Giovanni Bottesini. This masterclass took place at the Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía, Madrid 2009.
Student: Ignacio Fernández-Rial
Accompanying pianist: Jesús Gómez Madrigal
Venue: Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía, Madrid (Spain) 15/04/2009
G. Bottesini: Elegy no. 1 for double bass and strings in D major (double bass and piano reduction)
Abstract:
Professor Saksala corrects some aspects of expression while the student plays. He should listen all the notes and play the whole phrase until the end, preparing the shiftings. Saksala shows the student how to play different passages, explaining at the same time that he performs the piece. The short notes should be played longer, not rushing up. In the scales, it is necessary to make a line, and not to play separated notes. They talk about different kinds of vibrato and the best finger to be used.
