I just got my new mc6650 and as I come to a stop with my sewing it makes a grinding noise. I'm concerned something is wrong with it. I have re-threaded several times, changed the bobbin several times and it is the same. It doesn't do it every time but often. The stitching is pretty and doesn't seem affected. Any help would be appreciated.

I've had some trouble with trying to sew a decorative stitch (specifically 168) and everytime I would start the stitch it'll start to get tangled up in the bobbin and will get stuck after about 2 - 3 stitches. I've made sure I'm using the correct settings and foot but I'm a bit confused as to why it's doing this. Any advice would be appreciated.

I just received my 6650 machine and I have tried many times to use the needle threader. I used different thread followed each step and still the thread did not thread the needle. Ant tips on this would be appreciated.
@janomelife4 жыл бұрын
Larisa Vomacka hi Larissa, Did you do needle up down to make sure the needle is in the correct position for threading? Is the thread right over to the the left in the guide above the needle? And I assume you are not trying to thread a small needle with a tiny eye? ( size 70 needles are tricky to thread depending on what thread you are using). If you try these suggestions and it still won’t thread, you may have bent the little hook which catches the thread to take it through the needle. That can happen if you do not have the needle in the correct position for threading. ALWAYS use needle up down first before threading. Not the flywheel as you still may have it in the wrong position. If the hook is bent, you would have to ask a Janome dealer to get you a new one and install it for you although it is quite easy to do. Did you buy from a dealer or the Shopping channel? @KellieMcRaeHurricaneInHeels3 жыл бұрын
@@terriesa9883 Honestly, I'm a little disappointed because I got it home and a sensor was off-kilter, sent it to the shop, they fixed it, brought it home in the car (a 7-minute ride) and again the sensor was off. They had to come get it and bring it back to me. I'm just now starting to use it. It seems to be quite sensitive. I am now paranoid about moving it at all. So it was a good 3 week before I could even use it.

In the MC6650 guidebook, for free-motion quilting it says: CAUTION: Do not move the quilt layers toward you when the open toe foot is attached. Anyone know why?
@janomelife3 жыл бұрын
Yes, the open toe foot has that opening at the front so if you move the quilt sandwich towards you, there is nothing to hold the thread within the foot. If you use a closed toe foot, this won’t happen and you can move the fabric in any direction.

I notice you lock the stitch at the end of a sewing line. Is there a reason why you don't do this at the beginning of sewing your line? Does it automatically lock the beginning of your stitching?

It's a hard balance to find all the things you want/need in a machine in the price range you need. We suggest contacting your local Janome Canada dealer and having a chat with them. Sometimes they have deals or previous owned machines that will be exactly what you need. Happy Sewing!

When sewing free motion does this machine keep the stitch perfect even if you move the fabric too fast or slow??
@janomelife3 жыл бұрын
The MC6650 does not have a stitch regulator. We have other Janome models which do. So the even/ same size stitching is determined by the way you move the quilt, yes. Fast: your stitches will be larger, slowly: the stitches will be smaller. Having the speed of the machine set at the "sweet spot" helps a lot. For example, I can set the speed much faster for stippling but I have to slow it down for feathers.

Hi there, I have a Skyline S3 and I can move my needle all the way to the left (0) and all the way to the right (7.0) does this machine also do that? Thanks!
@janomelife4 жыл бұрын
Carole HuggableHound YES, it sure does. This Mc6650 actually has more features than the S3: it is a much bigger machine with 10 inches of space to the right of the needle ; more stitches which are 9mm wide ( wider than the 7mm on the S3) - to mention just 2 things.

Hi . How many layers of fabric can you use?
@janomelife4 жыл бұрын
Depends on what fabric ? Thickness ? Many people use this model to make bags and purses which have multiple layers of vinyl or cork and bag stiffening etc. it is a strong, powerful machine so will easily sew multiple layers with no issues. Always use the correct foot and needle.

Thank you, this was helpful. It would have been nice to get a little more instruction on the markings on the bobbin plate (ie where was 1/4 and is there a scant 1/4 marking); threading the machine using both spools of thread (ie one threaded to sew and one for winding a bobbin & can you bigger cones of thread)'; a close up of the thread in the needle threader as I am unfamiliar with a threader; more information as to why you would use a different bobbin case (yellow or blue dot - never heard of this); more information about using the thread clipping feature (never had before, does it knot the thread for you or is it just clipping it off so it could unravel?).

Could you show how to put on that clear plastic round free motion sewing foot?
@janomelife4 жыл бұрын
We actually offered a Janome Life blog post just yesterday on free motion: free motion flowers on the Janome M7. The free motion foot that Kim shows in that post (which includes a video) is very similar to what you have on the Mc6650. You can also look at the Janome Sewing Machines You Tube channel as they have many videos and I’m almost sure there will be some videos there showing the free motion foot.

How can I get a new Instructional DVD? Mine doesn't work in several different machines I've tried. Thanks.
@janomelife4 жыл бұрын
Hi Pamela, You would need to ask the dealer where you purchased your Mc6650. Not all videos/ DVD’s use the same software to play and it could be that you don’t have the required software on the computers you have tried to open it on? It is unlikely that the DVD is defective but you can also approach Tech Support. Their email is tech_support@janome-america.com. If it is a matter of having the correct software, they can advise you. How much do the 6650 and 6700 differ. If I got the 6650 for free motion would it turn out as nice as I know 6700 has acufeed and the 6650 does not.
@janomelife4 жыл бұрын
icreatestuff hi, The 6650 is very similar to the Mc6700P but with less features and feet. It is a price pointing matter. Free motion can be done on BOTH of these machines. Drop your feed dogs, attach the free motion foot and away you go. The Acufeed flex function is on the 6700P, not on the 6650. If you want to do walking foot quilting you would need to purchase a walking foot for the 6650. Walking door quilting is not the same as free motion as you are using the upper and lower feed dogs. For sure you can do quilting using a walking foot on the 6650, but just not using the Acufeed flex foot. Hope that helps explain the difference.

Is this a low shank or high shank machine?

The 6650 is a high shank machine. If the distance from the bottom of the presser foot is 1/2" it is low shank. If the distance is 1" or greater it is a high shank.
