I have my value scales -- which I downloaded from your "Jansen Art" website -- and I totally rely on them when I'm painting. I use what is called "super MDF" which is a fantastic surface for painting. I used the 1/8 thickness. You just make sure you paint or seal both surfaces when finished. Here I buy a 4 X 8 sheet of it at my local home store and cut it down to size. I get about 28 panels for about $20. You can also buy Richeson hardboard panels from Dick Blick or use double tempered masonite hardboard which you can buy at the home depot. All work well. Just make sure you paint all sides.
