Just a 60-second taste of the devastation experienced by Northwest Arkansas residents as freezing rain and sleet coated trees and power lines, damaging property and plunging thousands into cold and darkness.

reminds me of the oklahoma ice storm. it was always eerily silent outside. only thing you heard was cars or trees breaking and falling. and the occasional power line snapping lmao

Looking back on old videos thanks to the current ice storm. Nothing like 2009 but thats one sound ill never forget. Standing on the front porch listening to the trees just crumble around you. Glad this was caught on video because thats really what it was like over the entire city i lived in. Thankfully this storm is nothing like 2009 and dont think we will see another 200 for a good whils.

Same thing happened in northern Kentucky that year. We heard trees collapsing all night. They were easy to hear because they took out the power too. It took five days to get it restored.

Thanks. Yeah, it was pretty messed up. One of the power company guys from Texas told a friend of mine that the damage around here was similar in some ways to hurricane Ike down there.

We got an inch of ice in 2007 and we had two white pines that were about 3 stories tall each. They both pancaked on themselves and only the center of the trees were left. It was a mess and it took days to clean up because there was 8 inches of snow on top of the ice.

Hate to see and hear the destruction of those old trees. I am in Tulsa just down the road from you and we get the same weather systems you do. In 2007 we had the worst ice storm in a very long time. Power was out for 10 days here in my neighborhood and lots of trees got destroyed. Trees that seem to do well in ice are pines and oaks. The ones that fall apart immediately are Bradford Pears and poplars. I had a 60' white pine that was so ice coated it laid its crown all the way to the ground and after the thaw it was just fine.

I live in jonesboro, and I didn't sleep in my bedroom for a week because of our huge oak tree out back! Thankfully it stayed up, but we lost many others.

Had an ice storm in late 2007 I think in Iowa. but not like this. Had a boss force me in. Which I did make it in, but almost couldn't make it out of the parking lot. Really don't wanna drive in that again..
