In the Mythographic books I use my Albrecht Durer watercolor pencils as a base and that fills in the tooth of the paper. The AD can be used dry on top tomake it smooth. It goes quick and the color is rich and bright.

Well, a lot of my color alongs show me doing a neo color background. If you go to my latest video, I show how did the background for that page. Let me look through my videos. 😃Just about fell out of my chair when I saw my name. 😉 Your work is beautiful and I thoroughly enjoy your color alongs. Hopefully, we will find a solution to the paper problem in those books because I love the images. I recently purchased a small 36 set of Albrecht Durer watercolors. I tried those with the Polychromos in Mythographic Cosmic Spirit and was satisfied with that. Next, I might just try something extreme, like spraying the page with a fixative before coloring to see if that will grab Prismas better. That works when using pan pastels with Prismas on top... hummm. 😉

Lol! 😆 so I thought I would try polychromos again since it’s been a while and also Derwnt Inktese with a little bit of pencil work over top of that. I did that I think, in a Cosmic Spirit video I did early last year. I’m going to have to try that again. I like your idea of using watercolor pencils with the Poly’s over that. I might give that a try as well! 👍😊

Beautiful pages! I love the way you get the backgrounds to glow. A question - how do you manage the masking fluid when you protect the design? It’s so frustrating to work with - I’ve tried a silicon brush, a glass pen, a regular paintbrush - it just gets so clumpy and awful. Any tips?

Well, I do use a silicone brush, but I have a paper towel near me and clean it off regularly as I am applying the masking fluid. Also, how old is your masking fluid? It doesn’t keep for maybe more than a year. Also, are you using your masking fluid straight from the bottle or are you pouring a little bit out into a small cup and using it from there? If you’re using it from the bottle, that allows air to get to your masking fluid supply and it will start to clump in the bottle. These are just things that I could think of right off the top of my head…🤷‍♀️

Thanks for the tip of pouring some out - I do use it straight from the bottle but will use a cup from now on. I appreciate your input! ❤😊

I think I’ve ruined 3 pages from Anastasia’s books trying to do darker skin tones 😭 I’m not sure if its me, or the paper. The more I layer the more they look like they have a skin condition. Looking forward to seeing if you crack the code!

I think it’s the paper. I just don’t think it can take too many layers. It doesn’t have that much tooth to it. I’ve decided that I can only put so many layers on it, so I will have to plan accordingly when I go to color dark skin again in that book. I think next time I’m going to put a fine layer of pan pastel down as a base and then try to minimize my layers of pencil. We’ll see how that goes. 🤞
