I laughed out loud. I cringed at 12 sons as well...I have 3 grown sons. If they were alive at the end of the day when they were little, I did my job. Perpetual motion. So much energy.

Having been raised in the Spanish Caribbean, you can probably understand that my textbooks painted Sir Francis Drake as nothing but a heartless pirate, a criminal, and a thief--no nuanced historical perspective, whatsoever, or at least not 50 years ago, when I was a child! (I'm enjoying your videos so much!)

I learned a lot more about Sir Francis here than in history class! Thank you! 😊👍✌👸👑🏰🎪💙

This was my favorite thus far! I LOVED that lovely story of Drake's Drum... I had to run and share that with my family! I'll be reading further on that, for sure! Thank you!

I found it fascinating how young Drake was when he made his first sea voyage. Many 23 year old young men are still at home nowadays. Talk about totally different times!

My mother's maiden name was Drake. And my father's was Wallace. Wouldn't it be crazy if I was related to these famous people! I love listening to your videos. Very informative. Thank you.

Great video, just finished watching Wolf Hall. Ugh the last bit where Anne is beheaded was so heartbreaking. Just love digging deeper to get to know these wonderful historical people.

Hearing that the Pacific coast of the new world was "essentially Spanish property" is so depressing considering what the Spanish did in the new world. It was never their property. That said I enjoyed learning about Francis Drake and have been loving these on this day videos. Upvoted as always : )

I watched todays video, but although not a fan of Drake had to watch this earlier one i had not watched , because I am a Tudor period fan and a fan of Claire. Fascinating legends! And the trivia mentioned surrounding the legends too.

🇭🇲🦘 (viewed 25/09/2020 and on 23/01/2021) Sir Francis Drake's life full of adventure, exploration, a 'seasoned' seaman winning many sea battles. Of course best remembered for his circumnavigation of the Globe and for his role in the Spanish Armada. His 'tactical' abilities are well noted. Okay, so a pirate too! Very sad that he was to die in Panama and was buried at sea. 🙏 LEGEND: I especially love the Legends. The Legend of Drake's Drum 🥁 ... I choose to believe it wholly! Why not? As you said Claire, he was "a colourful character in life" and it appears also in death! "Thank you" Claire 💓👑👍

Would recommend a visit to Buckland Abbey, it's a very beautiful part of the country, saw the drum but it had rained that day and mist? had gotten in my camera so no pictures.

I read up on the drum. The original is now kept elseshere under climate control & 2 copies have been made in Plymouth from local materials. It is a wonderful drum with a great story. Thanks & have a lovely evening Claire.

Hello everyone this is a gift for all. In the eye of the storm there are no stars to guide for in the wrath of the sea you'll find no place to hide a man is defined by what he surrender for the weight of the souls with the storms come to render and that be the craft that were tested within that courage and love might endure to the end. Eric Drake.

I have been to see Drake's home. apparently he spent very little time living there as it seems he used it as his holiday home between 1581-1595 I hope I got the years right. while the former Abby was very impressive I couldn't help wonder what he may have had stored in the outside buildings

So, if you invade a place and claim the port for the Queen and England and then leave, won't the Spanish just take it back? And couldn't he have kept some loot for himself? I mean, the Queen would never know the difference, right?
