😮 I ❤ that bed in your garden! That's #gardengoals for my garden!😂 That being said, I have so much transplanting to do because half my veggie garden is in the shade by 1pm. I don't have the beds ready yet. I have blueberry bushes and banana trees. Even some established roses need to be moved to more sun. I love that you're sharing month by month lists of what you're tackling. Thanks for the great content you always bring!❤

Happy New Year Roxana!! I wasn't going to do any winter sowing this year, but your video has inspired me to try it again. I love the area that you plan to re-do. It is lovely. I'm looking forward to seeing how you transform it! You are fortunate that you can divide and relocate plants in January. Where I live, in Zone 5A, the ground is frozen solid, and covered in snow. ❄️

If the weather allows it, I am definitely outside moving/removing plants. Once spring comes I will be way busier doing other things.

What a treat to see you today! And I must admit, the transformation of your seed room took me by surprise. I really enjoyed the cozy dark green space and am eager to see what you will do with the room now. Thanks for the push on ordering seeds and beginning to plan. I hope to follow your lead on seed starting this year, as I am also on Zone 6a. Here’s to a great start to the 2025 garden season!

Your video has me even more excited for this planting season! I need to go through my seed inventory and do some germination testing, but I definitely have many new seeds circled in a couple of catalogs. I better get to ordering! I’ve tried winter sowing in jugs and had some decent growth, but I found that transplanting out of them was kind of a pain. This year I’m trying cold framing instead. Looking forward to seeing what you do in your garden this year! Much love from NW IN 💚

Happy New Year Roxana! Great video to get us excited for the upcoming season. I loved the bloopers at the end. When I make a video I usually have 15 minutes of bloopers I have to edit out LOL. Sometimes the brain to mouth connection is just not working :)

Yay on keeping a garden journal! Since 2021 I have kept mine in a Google spreadsheet. This makes it easy to do a keyword search if I need to. I have multiple tabs to keep track of everything I need in categories.

@ellemcclearly180014 күн бұрын
@@SoilandMargaritas No, but you can access Google Sheets from your phone which is probably less than 3 feet away 24/7 if you're like most people 🙂

I love the idea of seeing what you are doing month by month. I didn’t know to transplant in the winter. I may try that.
@SoilandMargaritas18 күн бұрын
I prefer to transplant when plants are fully dormant, that way they don't even get bothered, as long as the soil is workable.

Congratulations!! I just saw Hooked and Rooted feature your channel in the 20 best and I cheered loudly. I somehow missed this one. I am so on the fence about winter sowing, But I think I am going to try maybe 5-6 flower perennials, plus some brassicas and just wish for the best. I'm just not sure if it works amazingly in the southern midwest where we get ALL the weather. I feel like it works for things that are easy to grow, but fussy plants that need stratification are just as tricky. But in the past, I think I've started them in December and on relatively warm years with huge freezes. I thought I was a genius in the 2022-2023 season with yarrow, but it turns out, yarrow grows like a weed in my garden and takes no effort. At this point, I may just go fling a ton of seeds on the ground when the snow melts and do just as well. But once January 6th came, my desire to plant and start seeds just got huge. So I'm going to do a little bit and see what happens. I may try in the ground with a lid as well. I just want the snow to melt!

A few people have contacted me about that video, what an honor! Yes, we have been getting HIT with cold temps, like in the teens here, I do need to get those seeds outside for WS so they can get that cold period now.

I’m old school also when it comes to garden info. I like using a yearly planner from Menards. It has each month and plenty of room to take notes. This is how I figured out why the winter sow was not doing well and when it was happening. Yes, our winters have been too warm and the roller coaster temps were killing the winter sow. I now start in late February or March and place on east side of house and once temps stabilize better I then move to full sun. This proved to be a winner last year as it kept the jugs frozen without premature germination. I was just about to place an order and need to fully gather and review what I have so I don’t get duplicates. I really don’t need much it’s just those that only keep a year or two. We are finally getting cold and everything outside is frozen. Not sure how long it will last as there is always a January thaw.

I decided to go with a notebook instead of an actual calendar because I do like to have room to just add a bunch of things.

I'm not quite ready to baby trays an trays of seedlings but I'm definitely itching to get some started. I'm thinking of planting viola, pansy and geranium seeds next week. Zone 5b SE Wisconsin. I was also thinking of using just the tops of jugs set down in my raised beds for winter sowing. Then I don’t need to fill all the jugs with soil. We get some good wind here so maybe I'd need a cover of sorts. I'm still thinking thru that. Winter sowing has worked pretty well for me but I still rely more on my indoor seedlings. 😃
