I absolutely loved the liveshow you did with Allen. First because it was just pure joy to see Allen dying from anticipatory dread and low-key disappointment, but then it just turned into the most wholesome and delightful thing when you started bonding over the three 5-star reads. You are almost making me want to give Guards! Guards! a second chance, because I really didn't jive with it on my first read, even though I really enjoyed all the story elements and characters on paper... weird disconnect, don't know what happened. Sounds like a great start to your year Sarah, loved hearing all your thoughts!! 🥰

The Folding Knife....I definitely see what you like about it and how you described it. I *should* like it considering how much I love The First Law....I may give it another try later once I get more books off of my physical tbr later this year. I'm so glad you had such a great reading month!

Hurray for Ogres, Guards Guards and Folding Knife!!! In January I finished/read: *Fantasy* Books of Babel 2: Arm of the Sphinx - I enjoyed it but not as much as Senlin Ascends so I will continue the series but it's just not a priority. Dandelion Dynasty 1: Grace of Kings - Really enjoyed the first half but it wasn't until the 2nd half it really clicked with me. Greatcoats 2: Knight's Shadow - This was a lot of fun. Wilful Princess & Piebald Prince / Robin Hobb *Historical-Fiction* Last Kingdom 3: Lords of the North - Probably my favourite book in the series so far, though Uhtred falls in love ridiculously easily. *Urban Fantasy* Dresden Files: A Fistful of Warlocks Dresden Files: A Restoration of Faith - I felt bad about skipping most of the short stories and now I think I'm in the mood for a re-read of the series this time with the short stories in chronological order I've put Ship of Magic down for now. I liked what I read, but just wasn't in the mood so I'll pick up again later. And I DNF'D Mistborn The Final Empire, I'm just not interested.

Yeah, you are caught up on HOB! I wish they could get those books out a little more quickly. I don't want to wait to the end of the year to finish it. Thanks for the video and nice job.

Yesssssss I’m so happy you loved Ogres!!!!!!!!!!! It’s such an exhilarating ride of a book that I can’t wait to reread knowing what I know now. Allen already got me intrigued but you have me doubly excited now to read the Folding Knife! I enjoyed 16 Ways to Defend a Walled City but I found myself wanting a book with a bit more depth, which it seems like this one has. After loving Ogres and all 10 Shadows of the Apt books, I can’t wait to dig into more of Tchaikovsky’s oeuvre!

Looks like you had a good reading month Sarah. Maybe Allen should sort out your TBR every month 😄. I'll have to look into reading K J Parker sometime this year. I managed to read the following in January: The Coldest Girl in Coldtown - Holly Black The Twisted Tree - Rachel Burge The Nesting - C J Cooke & in Comic Books: Y: The Last Man (books 2 to 5) Brian K Vaughan Savage Wolverine: volume 2. Book 5 of Y: The last Man was my favourite book for January. It's a really good series.

I watched part of that liveshow with Allen which was indeed very funny 😂 I found that Jimmy did the same thing in his latest discussion with Allen where he waited quite a long time before telling him the "bad news". 😂 I personally really enjoyed Sharpe's Tiger (the humor, characters and setting worked for me), but I've not been compelled to pick up the next books in the series, so maybe there was also something missing for me. 😅 Or I'm just very intimidated by the idea of such a long series when there are so many books people I follow on Booktube or booksta are talking about and I feel I'm so much behind all the time (especially with Fantasy, I read them so much more slowly than everyone else, it seems 🥴). And I probably also feel the same about that time period, now that you mention it. 🤔 I'm currently reading The Warlord Chronicles (15% into Enemy of God) and I find myself much more entranced by it. I love the framed narrative so much, and felt the same while reading Imperium by Robert Harris last month (for Allen's readalong 🤗). I should be reading The Folding Knife this year, hopefully in the first half of the year, so I'm very excited to know that you loved it just as much as Allen! Btw, I found you through that liveshow and I'm very happy I did! ☺️ I'm also planning on reading Jane Eyre this year (as a primarily classics' reader, I pushed it down the list for so long because I thought I would dislike it after watching a spoilery review by none other than Merphy Napier -- oops 😅), but my dislike of romance in general (I liked Pride & Prejudice only for the social commentary, not the romance) makes me think I won't enjoy it. I really just have to dive in but everytime I'm just tempted by other seemingly more compelling books. 👀

Ogres is up next! Can't wait. Also, I felt very middle of the road with Senlin Ascends, but I'm glad I've continued. I like each book so far better than the prior one and I'm about 20% into book 4 on audio through the library. I hear the ending is divisive so we'll see. I think I'll try Guards Guards on audio. I recall Allen saying that some of the wordplay is missed in audio though because it's swapping things like corps and corpse which could be weird in audio vs physical. Either way, thanks for the summary! Have a great February!

Glad to hear you loved Guards Guards, it was the first Pratchett I read and was a wonderful beginning to the Discworld journey. The city was sub series is my favorite with some of the best Discowrld books. Will have to check out Ogres, I've only read a few books that had second person (the fifth season used it so well), so I'm always curious about books with that perspective. I read Never Die and it was a blast. It's short, fast paced with fun characters. It does get a little repetitive In the middle, but otherwise is really really good, although not quite great. Will defintly be reading more of the series.

I’m so happy to hear how much you loved Guards! Guards! Sarah. I love it too. Senlin Ascends has been on my list for a long time, but just can’t seem to make it a priority haha. My favorite reads of January were Cold Days and Caliban’s War.

Discovered you after watching your discussion on King on Mike's Book Reviews channel. I love the you enjoyed The Gunslinger. I don't get the dislike people have for that one. I have been meaning to pick up Wide Sargasso Sea. I have Senlin Ascends, but I haven't picked it yet. I'm going to start The Last Kingdom before February ends. My favorites for January were: Legends and Lattes, The Wolf, and We Don't Need Roads. It was a great reading month for the first of 2023.
