This movie is a gut buster and a heart wrenching experience what i love the most is in the book we never see the proffesers reaction to the sharik but the way he looks at the dog when he meets him jn the ally is both amazing and sad for all his talk about the profalisim of science and the humam mind i think the professer really just wanted a friend because he was always seen as a snob

it is not about what communism was like. Do you expect communists to reform the society just several years after country went through 1WW, 2 revolutions and a civil war? Russia laid in ruins at that time.

Why do so many Russian films release in UK and USA with subtitles only? Why can't you voice these films into English? Don't UK and USA have any dubbing studios?

The target audience for these films is too small to justify the investments in dubbing. Dubbing is much more expensive than subtitling.

People often have preferences for subtitling or dubbing as a result of their previous habits. A high number of populations prefer subtitling over dubbing. People don’t get distracted by the text on the bottom of the screen because they’ve developed an automatic reading behaviour. In my language area (Belgium and the Netherlands) foreign language films are always subtitled. It has many advantages: you see and hear the film as the director intended it, and it keeps the voices of the original actors, I can't imagine watching a movie with, for example, Morgan Freeman or Jack Nicholson without hearing their voices. In dubbed films, it is very strange to see that the lips of the actors say something different than what you hear. Language is important in all forms of communication. In art, in business, in everyday life. Subtitling allows viewers to listen to the way people communicate, to authentic voices. Dubbing gives them a different version of the same video. The message may be the same, but part of the non-verbal communication is lost. Subtitling helps improving language skills. It may seem like an insignificant factor when studying languages, but having direct access to how native people talk puts you closer to improving your language skills. English proficiency, for example, is very high in Northern Europe - where people get to see programs and films in the original language, thanks to subtitling. On the other hand, English proficiency is only moderate in Spain and Italy, two countries where video content in English is hard to access. In countries where English videos are subtitled, people obtain higher scores in TOEFL tests. In countries where people prefer dubbed videos, scores are lower, despite the fact that the authorities invest a little more in education. In my language area, most people speak at least three or four languages, and often more.
