This interview is very misleading, especially in reference to life in Canada. It's free health care, but citizens are heavily taxed. She also failed to mention the long wait times, etc. Apartments do not come fully furnished in Toronto. Child benefit is also calculated on the parent's income. Its also misleading to say if you lose you full time job, you get paid $1,600 the next day [every month]. E.I is calculated based on the number of months you contributed to it and how much you contributed, and it's not forever either, it usually for a few months or period depending on how long you were enployed for..

I think she's trying to sell her product, which is the travel agency I think she's running. I've been here longer than she's been, always been a resident, and I've NEVER received any benefits because not everyone really qualifies. If you make more, you won't qualify for anything, not even tax returns.😂

@geraldinemaduka4771 No wonder. I have been here for a long time as well [over 20 years], and this new wave of "japa" is causing confusion and creating unrealistic expectations. You see alot of these "japa" generation posting on social media, I just got to Canada 6 months ago and I bought a house but what they fail to disclose is they are in a remote location in PEI or Nova Scotia [not GTA] or they came in to the country with plenty of cash. Now, everyone in Nigeria thinks, "Canada is so easy." Better than Nigeria, for sure, but not easy. You get taxed for the air you breathe in Canada.

@@frankwhyte3267 The same thing with those ignoramus Japa in the UK. One even said he bought a house witthing 15 months he arrived which is impossible except if you brought in cash. You need a six years credit history and have a permanent resident card (ILR) before you can get a mortgage.

Their marriage was most likely in trouble before they left Nigeria. They probably stayed together because of cultural societal pressure (while in Naija). But decided to do the inevitable and part ways once in Canada. She looks happy, free and living life on her own terms. That is very revolutionary for an African woman and that’s why she’s getting so much criticism in the comments section. Bless her.

My sister you're wrong about the issue of children. I am a doctor here in UK and I can tell you that 1 in every 3 Briton is on antidepressant because of their individualist and lonely lifestyle. Compare this to our communal and social network due to family structure. I was also a doctor for 11 yrs in naija before I left so I can comfortably make that comparison. You don't give birth just for them to take care of you financially but you need them around you as a support system when you're are lonely and frail. Western culture has not favoured them but they're too proud to admit that

she said the husband wanted them to stay with in-law a bit longer...very easy of her to say he enjoys freebies and not paying rent. She herself said she wasn't doing any job, I assume the husband too wasn't doing any job then, there was no end in sight for COVID at that time, even if they went to Canada with 6 billion naira, it's unwise to start depleting your funds while nothing is coming in, especially when you have a chance to take rent out of the way. I agree with her that COVID took its toll on their relationship but on the surface, it looks like they are not on the same page with the willingness to delay gratification. Now that they are separated, she said herself that she has dated a lot of Nigerians in Canada now(thats a lot of Nigerians in 4 years) and her conclusion still suggests that Nigerian men are not good. I hope she feels better with herself now and have the peace she desires

Great Interview, but I would have asked her if she suffering from any medical issues or childhood trauma that is stopping her to wanting to have kids, because so many people that fall within this "I don't want to have kids" category are usually plagued with deep underlying medical/psychological issue and they make the gullible ones think that it was a personal choice. I only making this statement so as to prevent an innocent girl child or male child somewhere from taking a decision that might lead to painful irreversible outcome in years to come. Please let there be another interview that can confirm that she lacks non of these issues and it was her choice as people mask a lot.

Canada is a capitalistic society with mixed market economy so also is the USA. When people describe the USA as capitalistic, it really shows some level of misunderstanding of these economies. The USA has a large welfare system that supports disabled people, those living at or below poverty line, the old and unemployed. Pregnant women at a certain level of income get free care and support until child birth in USA and children from birth to 5 or so get welfare but you must fit into the category. Your income determines a lot and I think it should be so as the ones that have should not participate in these welfare systems. It is meant for the have nots. You must be a legal resident or United States citizen to enjoy these. Some cities are sanctuary cities so they support illegal immigrants as well. Like you rightly said, what you put in is what you get. The expectation that all fingers must be equal is unrealistic and will never be as all fingers are not equal. USA is fast paced whereas Canada is not. Gun violence is higher in USA than Canada. Education is free from Head-start to High school in the public school system in the USA. It is a choice to go to private school. The secret is living in a good school district, taxes will be higher but well worth it for the services provided at the public school in that district. Every country has some challenge with their public school system but you must know how to navigate it. To each their own but I love The United States of America.

Free health care that you're placed on a waiting list for certain treatments (some die while waiting). You will never be denied care in the US. Yes, you will pay but you have care anytime, anyday. And with good health insurrance, you're covered. Hospitals even refer special cases from Canada to US hospitals. The US is the best country you can ever immigrate to. Oga Daddy Freeze, you did not scrutinised this her story well. You allowed your personal relationship to becloud your journalistic instincts. You shouod have pressed further on the reason she denied her husband sex for six months while sleeping in the same room, on the same bed. The excuse of a two year old in the next room does not make sense. Are you saying parents don't have sex because of babies sleeping in adjacent rooms? Not the same room, but room separated by a wall. Even if the two year old is awake, what will he know they are doing? In nigeria couples living in single rooms seperate their bed space with only a curtain, while the children sleep on the floor, and action still takes place between husband and wife. Most likely, this aunty got to Canada and started forming feminist with newly found privileges. Why would the man refuse to leave his brothers house to start living alone with his wife?

Oga please show love when counselling, you don't know anyone's story, at some point most of us thought getting a university degree will give us a better life, some mocked those who went to get a skill but today in Nigeria, a lot of degrees turned out to be wasted years for many. Children are lovely but they may not serve that purpose for you in old age, people die before old age, some people are unable to have them, some children die before parents, some may turn out wicked, some may not be able to be there for their parents for whatever reasons. Many old people in our communities are taken care of by other people who are not their kids because the kids may not be available when they need them even many of them can never go long terms of taking care of parents without feeling inconvenienced except the ones with empathy and not everyone is lucky to have children who have empathy. Life is unpredictable so dont talk like you have the script.

if she was abroad all she needs is money and she'll have all those people around her... Naaa. so wrong! And it's also not always selfish to live your life through your kids cos living your life through them isn't always forced, you can influence them and then they pick up those values or investments you've made and then decide to build on your legacy. It's beautiful when this works out. The truth is children might have their own dreams or choose to build on what their parents have started. Let's think about what our world would look like if there was no mechanism to build on the legacy of others, parents or not. Actually not having kids could be considered selfish, and that's because you have the potential to have them but decide not to. I personally think it is a choice you make either way and as long as you properly thought through that decision and can live with it, you're entitled to that choice.

Health insurance is absolutely free for all kids. There is a child tax credit for children you got. You are wrong oga. Jẹun ọmọ really means that your child will be successful in your lifetime and also look out for you when you are frail. It is also that you are able to taste some or part of their success. There are many successful parents wey dey jẹun ọmọ. It doesnt mean you will be relying solely on your children and be a liability. The world is created to function in cycles, that is what goes around comes around. Parents do get responsible for their children for 20/25 years. So it ain't out of place to contribute to their lives every other day in their old and last days. It's part of what makes us humans and social beings.

It looks like they have deeper issues beyond sex. Did their hosts not have sex for ymonths too because they are all living in that space. These guys can still have sex in their own bedroom. Its not that hard na. Whatever the reason for them not having sex, most likely had nothing to do with rent. 6 months is a lot, and possibly the guy was done already.
