Ron Schleede the investigator from the NTSB said in the interview at Air Crash Investigation that the pilots miraculously manage to control the airplane with engine power only but it kept circling and circling and worked it's way into the mountains and it became impossible for the pilots to land the aircraft. @@pvp_demigod4022 Since the asymmetrical flaps finally led to JAL123’s fate, JAL123 could have flown longer if that particular failure wasn’t present. However, I do not know if they could have ever landed safely. The captain preferred to return the plane to Haneda airport, but the out-of-control plane turned away from the direction they aimed for, and then the plane flew into the mountainous areas. I’m not sure where else could the plane have landed, but I think during their last moments they were aiming to land the plane at Yokota Air Base. Honestly both JL123 and LY1862 have teached us a thing, that is - *DO NOT try to using flaps and slats if you have configuration damage* . You don't know if the flaps and slats are still working fine, and if they don't, you'll highly possible losing the already crippled control to the plane. Plus, to using flaps and slats meaning that you have to put the aircraft in low speed and therefore low energy condition, which will also making the already crippled control even harder. When you have configuration damage, just go fast. Higher speed means higher energy, and higher aerodynamic forces from wings, stabilizer and control surfaces, so you'll have better chances to maintaining control. Go fast and you could at least bring the aircraft to a straight course that could make it to the runway, and go slow to using flaps and slats could just causing things like unilateral stall and wingtip drop, and therefore completely loss control.

Note that JAL only operates from Terminal 1 at Haneda for domestic, the 747 was parked at the right side of the terminal building, which is Gate 18.

1:12 the captains last words: its over now! R.I.P to the 520 people who died one note was found in the crash saying this. Be good to each other and work hard. Help your mother. It’s sad, but I’m sure I won’t make it. I don’t know the cause. It’s been five minutes now. I don’t want to take any more planes. Please kami-sama help me. To think that our dinner last night was the last time. There was some sort of explosion in the cabin There was smoke and we started to descend Where are we going, what will happen? Tsuyoshi , I’m counting on you Darling, it’s too bad that this has happened. Goodbye Please take good care of the children It’s 6:30 now. The plane is turning around and descending rapidly. I am grateful for the truly happy life I have enjoyed until now. credits to titan

Must have been the most terrifying 30 minutes of their lives. From the moment the tail broke off, the airplane going up and down, right and left and the moment of impact. My heart breaks for the passengers. :|

JAL Flight 123 was scheduled to depart from Tokyo and arrive in Osaka, but suddenly there was an explosion in the back, and it crashed in Ueno Village, Gunma Prefecture, about 32 minutes later.

Tbh, I prefer the older one rather than this new one, despite improved animation. What I like from older 123's documentary is that, the acting felt so much real, from the tone and stuff, giving you the feeling on that haunting moment during the flight. In this new one, I saw the acting a little too calm which doesn't gave you the vibes.

You know, the pilots did good. They tried. It’s sad to see them die but, it’s just life. You live and ya learn, it’s just called life. The dark side of life. I’ve been obsessed with planes for a long while. And I say aviation is a beautiful thing. The crashes are sad and I know most agree. But, they’re in a better place now. R.I.P pilots.
