There is a great little museum of cinema in the town, with lots of photos of films made there in the 1950's. The most famous is Ozu's Tokyo Story, the final scenes were shot around the town, and in front of one of the temples - there is a map in the museum showing where some of the most famous scenes were shot.

Thanks again for a bicycle tour. I have cycled around so many times just like you two have. This is one behavior that I have not lost in my adulthood. Started exposing as a child and will most likely continue. So many times the sense of wonder is lost in adulthood. Exploring, such as this, keeps the "wonder" alive in all of us. I just invested in a GoPro for this very reason. Now I can record some of my adventures and share them with my friends. Keep doing what you do.

Didn't get to go around this shopping area last year but did enjoy the Shimanami Kaido ride. the drive from Nagoya was a bit far for me and I was surprised how much of the cycle route was on the road with cars. We got permission to park at a local onsen so we ended up parking there one night and left the next morning. there were a few other camper vans so it seems like a popular spot. Your next adventure should be some bikepacking.

Good idea! I was really worried about the overnight parking since it was my first time. I was also really surprised by route being mostly on main roads :/

Great little tour. What you mentioned in the beginning about parking farther away to save a couple of bucks, I really appreciate how all the little expenses saved do really add up! Most Americans see savings as per unit cost but Japanese see savings as actual total expenditures. My Japanese wife and I compromise when we go to Costco by buying in bulk but only for the monthly usage as most Japanese go grocery shopping several times a week. Anyhow, I'm so jealous of your journey but truly happy you're able to enjoy before you embark on your next job! ビデオから伝わる、クルスさんの日頃の頑張り、生活の工夫に頭が下がります。そんなクルスさんが楽しんでいる姿を見られて私はただ嬉しいです 🚴🚴♀️🎴🙏☺️
@TwoWheelCruise4 жыл бұрын
Thanks! That's an interesting observation. I'm pretty strict with both, unit cost and total. I try to set a max budget per month, but also try to find the best deals for different products. Ironically in Japanese and vietnamese culture the women should manage the money, but I've taken that role 😅 we don't do trips like this often so I try to not be too stingy, but save money where we reasonably can. Maybe I'll make a trip summary video with costs...

At 9.17 (I saw this in this in Thuong's walking tour too) there is a very cool little concrete modernist block on your left, covered in ivy. Its actually the public toilets. And at 9.17 you pass a great little cafe run by two really friendly young women, I had a great lunch there (when I visited last November the town was much quieter, most places were shut), its one of those 'why the hell didn't I make a note of the name' type places, because it deserves to be flagged up as a good place for any visitor to eat.

Welcome! :) The major brands have good hybrid bikes at around $700. (Giant, Trek, etc..) Anything over $1,000 you're probably better off getting a decent MTB or road bike.

Great video. You said cycyclocross was a good versatile bike for beginners. So, I am wondering why anybody rides road bikes? Why are you often riding a straight road bike? Newb question.
@TwoWheelCruise4 жыл бұрын
Most bike companies / shops stock road bikes since it is a bigger market. CX bikes used to only really be for racers, but now gravel bikes are opening more space for beginners. For the last month I've been riding my road bike more, but I'm mostly riding my CX bike in the videos before that. Just depends on my feeling and which bike is operating best at the time.

It appears that in Japan, particularly in this video, everyone rides step thru type bikes, including men. In The Western world, these style of bikes are normally referred to women's bikes. Do the Japanese also classify these bikes as Women's bikes, but the Japanese guys just ignore this reference? Cheers.
