Team Japan Sinabe, Ishii, Koga, Araki, Sato Setter, Yamamoto and excellent libero. Extremely good floor defense and blocking. The 3 OHs were excellent in cross court and pike attack.

Sarina Koga really improved so much if you compare this game to her performance in 2020

This is the much stronger team combination of Japan putting in :- sarina koga, yuki ishii, risa sinabe, araki, myokumura mb and sato setter and the libero. This is a very strong combination but head coach Umi switch in between Yuki Ishii, koga and Sinabe against Korea. Maybe she under estimated Korea and lost 1 to 3 .

The reason why Japan has a disappointing campaign results at 2020 Tokyo Olympics because their new young players were not good enough to defeat South Korea and Dominican Republic. Miya Sato,the setter here retired too early,at the age of 30. Same thing with Shinabe ,who also announced her retirement. That left Japan without any experienced Opposite. This is the time where Japan is very good at floor defense thanks to Risa Shinabe and Miya Sato,both of them were very good at digging especially Shinabe on reception/passing the ball that enables the setter to make an excellent sets. Shinabe could be a great help if she's still with the team during Tokyo Olympics.

Risa retired because of her last year's wrist surgery, she can't keep up with the postponement of the games. Just like what happened before Rio 2016. I don't know much about Miya's retirement reason, hence we can't blame these athletes. They have done good enough for their country. On the other note, the young players are exceeding expectations actually, in such crucial and constraint of time, at least they got to be synch and ended up 4th place at the last season of VNL, regardless of whether teams they faced with are Team A or Team B. In 1996 games they are 9th, in 2000 they failed to qualify for the first time ever, 2004 and 2008 - 5th, and 2012 they got the bronze; they are the developing stars of Hinotori Nippon. We'll still see progress, especially now Manabe is back. Let's just hope for the best.

Although Japan's results as at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics were disappointing, it is not right to blame the new generations. There were other teams with new members (in fact, the men's team for Japan were one of the youngest and they still made it to the top 8) and to be honest, teams cannot depend on one player to lead them to victory. It is true that there may not have been any experienced opposite who has played in the Olympics, however, many of the opposites including Mayu Ishikawa, Ai Kurogo, and Sarina Koga played in the World Cup back in 2019, so it is not true to say that they had no experience playing internationally.

Japan did defeat Korea and Dominican in 2021 vnl(same crew as the Olympics). I think the young players(Kurogo, Ishikawa, Momii) were physically and mentally worn out fighting desperately against Serbia and Brazil without Koga, which leads them to this result. Just see how promising the young players had performed in 2021 vnl, so I'm still looking forward to the youngsters' future appearance. Last but not least, don't blame athletes for the results, because I'm 100% sure that they are the one who trained so many years just to be here, and they are disappointed at themselves more than anyone, so we have no rights bashing or reflecting on them.(ps. sorry for my bad english)

@@smile_7284 no one is blaming the young players. I think what he's saying is that this player combination served Japan well so when they retired, it didn't help them at all. It would have been great if they were still there as reinforcements to the young squad.

no. Japón no controla los derechos sobre la cobertura de los Juegos Olímpicos. No lo verás en ningún canal en el corto plazo. El mundo del voleibol ni siquiera puede publicar lo más destacado de los juegos de los Juegos Olímpicos de Tokio. nope. Japan does not control the rights on the coverage of the Olympics. You won't see it in any channels anytime soon. Volleyball world can't even release highlights of the games of the Tokyo Olympics.

この時代は全体的にディフェンスと決定力の弱さがあるね。 竹下、佐野、木村、新鍋が入ってたらほんとにボール落ちなかったもんな。 古賀と石井の決定力不足もかなり目立ってる。逆に古賀がここからあれだけ成長したって真鍋監督何者よ？笑 その点新鍋はほんとにブロックもディフェンスも見て打ち分けてて器用なんだなぁと改めて思う。 ディグが乱れた時の２段トスも雑だなぁ。佐藤の２段トスより木村沙織の方が上手いのでは？レベルじゃんか。 中田監督は早いバレーにこだわりすぎて守りとか繋ぎの練習全然しなかったの？って思うレベル。
