we have em... if it were not for russia's aging nukes... America would have no threat conventionally on Earth. HOwever Japan if all of this information is correct about the airframe contruction... is genius ! Ive been barking for about 6 yrs now i think about why we cant use more carbon-fiber and instead of having a skeleton like most aircraft... have a Hull that is formed to reduce weight... making them fast and able to carry larger loads of munitions.... i mean with CAD systems and new manufacturing techniques... we can revisit some of our older designs that were successful and dramatically increase their performance... I mean imagine the stuff we could pull off ... Japan seems to be taking the lead here with their forward thinking and thats where we need to get on board and exploit the shit ouf these ideas .. NATO and out allies will have such a huge technological lead over Non-NATO it would be insane for any wanna be world power to even consider trying to Attack our nations conventionally...PS wanna apologize... I have broken ribs... and took my pain meds and was Nodding out during my comment.. hopefully ive made sense out of what i was trying to convey...

Please don't underestimate PAF. They have recently acquired FA50's under the Military Modernization program. Moreover, they are also expecting to acquire 4+ gen fighters for the 3rd phase of the program in the next 6 years. In my opinion, I don't see the need to develop our own fighter aircraft given that other nations already made modern and operational models which our nation can purchase.

A main fighter plane supported by two drones on each side looks like one of the Japan-made jet fighter arcade games I played back in grade school. As they say Toyotas are "good, solid and reliable" - the translation for that is "heavy - ugly and slow". May I put it to you that those characteristics are not exactly what you need for a combat aircraft. As for the availability of this thing they say in this report that it will not even be combat ready until 2035. By then the west will be lost and China, Russia possible India and the resource rich nations will rule the world. For sure there will be no more super power USA or EU. in 2035 so Japan will have to form alliances with the Asian nations. Interesting isn't it?

Don't forget it's Fly-by-light system and advances in its engine design which made it slightly smaller and lighter than F-22 engine yet thrus-to-weight ratio close to F-22. The use of advanced ceramic component to make it able to withstand higher temperature. They will certainly make improvement into it. Lastly, do not forget it's capability to auto fix its system and divert power to other system should it be damaged. These what made it a 6th gen fighter.

To be a true 6th generation fighter, it will need the ability to send out a signal instructing the 3 drones to automatically connect with the manned fighter thereby making a giant flying robot. The giant robot can then land and start smashing the enemy's tanks and ground to air missile systems. Then, when everything has been destroyed, the giant robot can blast off and start flying again then send another signal to the attached drones instructing them to disengage thereby re-establishing the 4 unit fighting force. Then, it would be a TRUE 6th gen fighter.

If made of carbon composite surely it will be lighter than F22 even though it may be bigger. This would also explain why they don't need more powerful engines. This is all guesswork and the answer simply is we just don't know the full extent of what they are targeting. If it is 6th gen then perhaps the electronic warfare capability, and blocking technology will certainly be next level and give them a tactical advantage than current 5th gen planes.

To be realistic about it, that's probably where things are going, more or less. Not kamikaze planes, but rather high-precision ultra-fast missiles that can be "flown" just like a drone. From a typical aircraft, remove the pilot and anything related to re-use (landing, refueling, maintenance, etc..) and what you're left with can be something truly terrifying. Basically, once somebody gets some controllable hypersonic (Mach5+) missiles and some South Korean gamers to "pilot" them, that's it, they win.

I think the addition of the drones is next level, depending on capability -- but , I mean, why do we even have a pilot in the jet? With our tech and networking, I'm surprised remote piloting isn't a thing yet. Veteran fighter pilots are what we need more of -- badass pilots. Stop loosing them.

Difficult relations? Does anyone realize what Japan did to China from 1930 to 1940?

Methinks that Japan is smart enough not to let Lockheed Martin know about all of the vehicle's capabilities. Japan learned a big lesson in WWII. They aren't telling us what that was; but, it can be substantially extrapolated. Military Flight Ballet is a dynamic dance and only for the agile.

In my view, such a shame for the Black Widow technology to just be a display piece in the museum. Tooling is already done to build the airframe

So Japan by themselves made that plane, and our F35 took forever and billions of money from multiple country.
