I'm very surprised that the japanese views & criticism on Pokemon Journeys turned out like that. I mean the anime started trying orienting the pokemon anime to the children viewers with S&M right after XY with its slice of life theme & art style (which they kinda brought both along for Journeys as well), so I assumed it was working; but was really shocked to find out there was hate for journeys really & actually coming from the Japanese community since it always starts from them first

It is sad that Journeys seems to not be living up to Pokémon's past. I feel like a lot of what was said here was very valid. Something that is done too much today is people seeing criticism, being offended by it, and not doing anything about it, not taking any of the advice given to them when it would help so much. Great to see another video so close to your other one! (even though it wasn't an overall happy go lucky one, I'll still take what I can get!)

I'm pretty sure the anime is more geared to getting new audiences (children) while in turn gets backlashed by past audiences but takes no action whatsoever. It is true they featured past characters, but this only entices nostalgia. At least, Iris's return was good. But overall, we all know that this generation of children is more inclined to mobile gaming so the anime should focus on pleasing the old fans than getting new ones.

I started to really watch Pokemon with XY, so maybe I have a too high standard but I can't imagine that the same people who wrote XY&Z are the same that write Journey. I haven't seen anything in the Journey anime that is about growth. We are at 60 episodes and the characters are basically the same as they were on episode 1. Their is nothing that work in leading kids toward maturity and growing up, which sadly is a trend in kids TV shows in general that Pokemon wasn't spared from. The reality is that kid don't want to see other kids being kids, they want to see more mature characters that they can look up to because that is the point of kids shows and kids movie: Give them role models to grow up. I can say that from personal experience since I am young enough to remember clearly when I was a kid and I can say that from spending time with kids that they prefer older shows that I show them than the one they are used to with the same characters and universe. That is because older kids shows are more mature and entice growth in kids while Modern shows are not mature and don't have role models for growth they are intended to keep kids as kids because reasons. Basically modern shows are to make childish people while older show were to make responsible and mature people. The journey anime and even to some extent the Sun and Moon anime, mostly in the beginning, are shows that were just for jokes and no real growth. The main characters were not role models but comedic and immature that aren't growing up (figuratively since no one grow up in Satoshi's world). That is why I dislike it and why some many people dislike it. Tell me if you think that the current characters of the anime are characters that kids should look up to and why because, personally, I don't think any of these characters are good role models for kids.

I too agree with negative reviews of the pokemon journeys 1. Goh caught lots of pokemons just throwing pokeballs left and right. Moreover his goal is unclear and uncomfortable. What's the point in catching so many pokemons to way upto catch mew? 2. Goh got more spotlight compared to ash and koharu. Moreover writers project ash character as dumb to highlight goh character 3. There is no story in the pokemon journeys and more of episodic nature. Most of the episodes created especially for goh. 4. Definitely they didn't develop the ash character and no more episodes of ash interacting with his pokemon/ training his pokemon.

Mine are very similar to the Japanese community's opinions. Everything about and around Goh runs contrary to the very world the show takes place in. Then there is the matter of respecting continuity. On one hand the show constantly brings up characters and past events but on the other hand Ash is forced to act quite dumb and ignorant, not having issues with some things as he should. It almost feels like they erased Ash's journey so far from Ash and character reunions only last for an episode with no real reason other than to tick a box and there is no respect in their comback either. One of the biggest issues here is that Ash feels like he is just wondering around. It feels like both the character and the writers don't know what to do with him and so Ash just hangs around Goh because he doesn't have anything better to do. Ash right now is aimless and has no direction while simultaneously devoid of all the lessons he has learned as well as any leadership and mentor like qualities.

I really feel like journeys has a lot to offer but so far, it isn’t giving much. For a series that’s about all regions and such not much has been done. This is the first series (imo) where I really feel like it’s stale, Ash isn’t really interesting, Goh has good qualities but he really feels like a Pokémon go player, and as for Koharu she just ain’t doing it for me considering she’s basically second tier compared to Goh and Ash. Hell, even Ash seems second tier considering he barely really does anything remotely interesting, idk. I hope Journeys does get better as the series goes on, but as of rn it’s not all that enjoyable. Just to clarify, this is just my opinion. I’m not saying anyone can’t enjoy the series because there are a lot of things that people can enjoy. However, to me this series just has a lot of work to do.
@deiondre03 жыл бұрын
"Stale" is definitely a word Ive been using more often to describe the pokemon anime recently. I really liked the Ash/Goh duo but their whole dynamic has gotten really stale, especially after the Lucario/Cinderace evolutions. It feels like the writers have completely ditched a vital part of the pokemon anime since XY, an actual sense of PROGRESS. Sure, Goh wants to catch all the pokemon in the dex before he catches Mew. But its been 70 episodes, and does it feel like Goh is any closer to completing his goal than he was in the beginning of the series? Do the writers even bother to show us how close (or not close at all) Goh is to completing his goal? For some reference, heres what was happening after episode 70 of XY. Ash got his 5th out of 8 gym badges, beating Clemont in a very anticipated rematch. Serena already had her first showcase, which turned out to be a pivotal moment of character development. Goodra was being released after a full character arc. All this comes with a sense of progress that we are getting closer to the end goal (the Kalos League and the Master Class). There hasnt been anything like this for Goh's goal and it also feels like Ash's path to the Pokemon World Championships needs a bit more spotlight. Of course Project Mew is coming up so we'll see how the writers handle that but im not as hyped as I should be

@@deiondre0 I feel like same way. When they ditched the journey aspect in Sun and Moon it was a mistake. Sun and Moon is fine but it honestly set the sale for this slice of life style and now here we are with Journeys. I wonder if after Journeys will they go back to their roots. While the Alola champion does make Satoshi a champion it’s not nearly the same as if he were to win the title of championship in another region. I feel like he could go to the next region and do the league and no one would complain. It’s better than what we go here.

The biggest point I agree with is definitely the structure of the anime. All the other generations had a goal, a journey in some form. Even Sun and Moon Ash was still trying to beat all 4 Kahunas, and has dedicated episodes to it. Journeys however is full on slice of life, no real arcs, barely any development, the structure is all over the place. I suppose the journey could be the whole tourney thing with Leon, but it isn’t explored enough to hold strong weight. This also might be why episodes are enjoyable on their own, but not all together or if you binge the series. There’s just nothing to look forward to.
@connorradcliffe17693 жыл бұрын
I think the problem is also the group/cast. With bigger friend groups, Ash and his friends could journey and clearly have their own episodes. But if Ash and Gou are just constantly with each other, or constantly intrude on each others episodes/moments, nothing new really happens. Gen 4 anime had 3 people, Ash, Dawn and Brock, and yet they clearly all had different goals which you actually got to witness or travel along with. Sun and Moon had a similar feeling, with each of the students doing their own thing at times, and growing from it
@sunnienelly3 жыл бұрын
@@connorradcliffe1769 I agree! The cast as a whole need a lot of work because nothing is really being done with them. @@Nintendofan781 I'd honestly have nothing against focusing on characters, that's what made some characters enjoyable, such as Serena and Lillie, the problem is that Journeys doesn't really have enough character development to use that as a standing point. They more so just establish three personalities early on and put them in adventures. Goh gets a little bit of development, and Koharu got one aspect of character development... that's it. Ash has barely developed at all, the closest we got was when he got depressed cause he dropped rank, almost like we haven't seen that done before a few times in the past. Don't even get me started on a good portion of the Pokemon's character development too. We're just supposed to enjoy the slice of life mishaps with these personalities that have barely evolved since the start of the anime.

I feel like Pokémon Journeys started out with some amount of potential. There was going to be traveling, exploring all the regions often, and lots of recurring past characters. However, it didn’t go that way at all. At the start it went well, with our protagonists going out to explore the wild area, Hoenn, etc. But Goh always felt... off. He never got to know his Pokémon aside from scorbunny, and his other Pokémon were only brought back on screen for one episode, or not at all. He kinda used them as tools, like a Pokémon antagonist. He could’ve been a great rival for Ash, but making him a protagonist made lots of fans, including myself, weirded out with this character that never did anything for anyone else I the series. He was (and is) an advertisement for Pokémon Go, and now that we’re so far into the series, he can’t change at all. The series itself is a bit dull, there’s no ongoing main story aside from the Battle Federation and Goh catching Pokémon. There’s no evil team recurring, there’s no plot. There’s no struggle between trainer and Pokémon, no continuity. You could be completely new to the franchise and understand what’s going on, but long term fans feel disappointed.

I think the first thing they have to do is get a grip on anything, stabilize this rollercoaster that goes more crazy than the corona graphs few months ago. If they don't make a baseline now, any plottwist like this is guaranteed to fail. Like I said, my hopes for such a storyline change aren't high in general, they'll end up upsetting more people (namely *even* the ones that like it currently)

I'm almost 1000% sure that if Goh replaces Ash as the main protagonist in the next series, more than half the fanbase will stop watching the anime. Ash is too iconic to be replaced at this point, and as much as people make fun of him for his "reset" in each new region, he is one of the anime's biggest draws for just how long he has been the protagonist and how much he has accomplished. To replace him after 25 years... that's not going to be easy or even a good idea if you don't want to alienate your most ardent supporters.

@iqhmalRedux3 жыл бұрын
My biggest issue with Pokemon Journeys is that it doesn't really feel like an anime. Not just compared to previous seasons but anime as a whole. I have been watching anime for years now and the majority of anime I watched are structured in such a way that the whole story feels connected by the plot. Therefore, we get a sense of progression each episode except fillers of course. Journeys' plot is a disorganized mess because everything feels so disconnected. Personally I feel like this disconnect is the result of the episodes being mostly self contained. A new conflict or plot point is introduced at the start of a new episode only to be resolved in the same episode and have no consequences whatsoever on the greater plot. They are no different than fillers. Another issue for me is a lack of tension. Goh catches everything in a single pokeball at sight so no worries about catching pokemon. Ash have only struggled after losing to Bea and losing ranks after that. Yet we didn't see him struggle his way up the rank. He realized his mistake after losing rank then suddenly he's back up in the rank offscreen. There are also issues with the characters themselves but people are already talking about them. To put it bluntly, Pokemon Journeys feels more like a cartoon than an anime to me.

@@silvacrystalx28 While I admit that SM was pretty similiar, it has the advantage of being similiar to the game. We get a sense of progression because we know the order of things. After some trials, comes a Kahuna battle. After beating all the Kahuna, comes the pokemon league. The show itself might not gives a sense of progression but our knowledge of the games gives that sense of progression. Not exactly a good plot but still better than Journeys. Another thing is the premise of both shows. SM games were fundamentally different since they scrap gym challenges for trials. Besides we can see from the get go that SM was more of a comedy slice of life type of anime so the expectation wasn't as high especially since the new artstyle after xy was either loved or hated. Journey however had a promising premise. Travelling to all the regions and the pokemon world championship (or whatever the English dub calls it). People's expectation was at an all time high. Possible character returns, Ash's older pokemon, a journey like non other! Aaand then what we got was really underwhelming. Goh doesn't feel like a secondary protagonist like all companions before, it felt like he IS the main protagonist. That won't bode well since that means Ash felt more like a side companion. Yes Ash is either loved or hated by the fandom, but most of the people that hate Ash most likely doesn't even watch the anime. The whole pokemon world tournament felt tacked on with how little screen time it got. Worse, we can't even look at the game's plot for progression since the anime isn't following the games except the Darkest day arc. Even that was underwhelming since it was just a 1 to 1 copy paste from the game with the exception of when it happens.

What i absolutely despise about Goh is he destroyed a fundamental aspect of the anime, which is pokemon are characters too, pokemon also develop and become stronger. Th reason everyone loves Ash and his Infernape, Greninja, Incineroar erc. was because it took time for them to develop, had their own personalities, their stength felt earned and they worked hard on it. Goh is like throw pokeball (somehow catch a legendary), repeat until mew. You can say "why is that bad? I play the game that way" its because pokemon dont feel alive in the games. You cant tell me you feel a stronger bond with code on a screen than living breathing animal. My point is that in journeys pokemon dont feel like characters except for a few.

Just imagine the potential of a proper sword & shield anime! Especially with how galar's gym challenge is considered something like a sports event, there could've been so much fun had they went the traditional route. Combine that with the old art style and story tone of XY and boom, there could've been a series on par with DP and XY. Journeys on the other hand had a cool concept which surely gathered lots of attention when it was first announced, but the execution has been so poor it almost feels like nothing has been accomplished. Can't help but feel like we were robbed. Robbed of galar and its great cast of characters. If done properly I feel like the darkest day arc may even be as hype as the team flare arc. I really hate it's for kids term, therefore they make it more like a cartoon rather than an anime. They need to understand that their audiences will grow up, let's take a look at Goku from a newbie to a master, but the process took a long time and we grow up as we watch it, making Goku older actually makes it feels like he has progressed and experienced we also stick to show because we want to see him progress more and how far he'll go. Unlike Ash, It feels like he got rebooted every series, every series makes it feels like he has a new start and makes him looks like a newbie and I personally doesn't feel the progress nor experience he have even though he has gone to 8 region! Like literally Pikachu lose to a level 5 snivy that have no experience of battle whatsoever! He even forgot how the move attract works! Making him look stupid and children will find it funny but to us cultured people, that's just straight up dumb, years of traveling through regions wasted, only to reboot him after next season. Well this is because as I said earlier, *iT's fOr kIdS* term. This means that Ash could never grow up, every season makes Ash looks like a newbie to attract new kids to watch the show. This does have advantages because kids will always watch it, but how about us? The true og! We'll f*ck it! It feels like we have been betrayed for how many years we have watch him battling since the first episode and Ash still is a kid?! WHAT!! Which is may be the reason why japanese people hate Pokémon Journeys To be honest, I feel like the closest one Ash have ever kept his experience from the past is in DP and XY and I think Japanese people would agree too considering how good the ratting from both season are.

It really depends on what they do with it. XY&Z actually caused a big blow on their budget in an interview for the show. It's hence why SM's animation dropped in quality compared to XY. They might either stop the show entirely, just do nothing and keep the show running as is, or keep it running and improve the storytelling. I guess this anime wanted to be a slice of life but just can't get it right. I get why SM is what it is. Because of XY, obviously they can just reduce money so that potentially they can use the money on a bigger, possibly more better project. Though if this is meant to be that project.. then what they're definitely missing is risk... that's what XY&Z was. A big risk to the animation department and it succeeded over the games.

Heck, even SM and BW, despite the obvious problems they had, had a clear goal. That's something Journeys does not have right now. Goh wants to capture Mew. Why? Because he saw it as a kid. OK, that's not a good enough goal for a series. Yeah, I have to agree with some of the reviews. There is way too much focus on Goh but still little development with his other pokemon. That is one of the things that many fans like about this series, how Ash and other characters bond with their pokemon and grow, Goh doesn't do that. If he wants to catch them all, fine, but we don't need episodes on him catching pokemon we already seen before that he is barely going to bond with or we are even going to see again. Especially if for a good number of them, he is just going to throw the pokemon ball without even weakening it or bonding with it. Sort of is a middle finger to all the other captures that Ash and other characters got. Another issue is filler. There is too much of that when it should really focus on the development of Ash and his current team. Even if they are fully evolved, there is still plenty of development that needs to be done and more battles fans are eager to see. That is another reason why people are drawn to pokemon in the first place, the battles. Ash is literally planning to battle the world's strongest trainer and needs to fight other high trainers to get, but we barely get to see it when you compare it to goh episodes or filler. And also, the infernape episode was missed opportunity. Since he is going around the world to fight strong trainers, this could of been the chance for him to swap around his team and bring back old pokemon, mainly ones that having yet evolved that should yet such as Gible, Buizel, Palpitoad and Quilava or pokemon that need more wins, such as Noivern and Torterra. And even bring back Infernape and other powerhouses, just to show off and have good fights. Making Ash the side character, in this situation isn't working. Ash wants to beat the strongest trainer and has a good team, Goh just wants to catch them all (too easily) and mew without bonding with them. Many fans say that Ash has been in the spotlight for too long and a new trainer needs to take his spot. But, who say's the trainer should be goh? It should be a trainer, that actually if interesting in battling other trainers, going through actually struggles, overcomign them and bonding with. That has been the theme that fines like about pokemon. For those who want Ash out of the spotlight nd more focus on Goh or another character, this isn't the way to do it. Have more focus on Ash and his team, have them grow and have Ash meet his goal, defeat leon and then have him decide to re-enter the leagues he lost and give the spotlight to Goh or the other character. Don't just make him the side character like this.

I've watched all the seasons from season 1 to the latest. All the movies everything. I can easily say this series is by far the worst they've ever given us. The only people praising this are parents or just kids who haven't rlly watched the previous seasons at all. Honestly journey is a huge slap to the face to fans and I find it difficult to watch. Sun and moon was such a fun series to watch, I enjoyed the season the most (my preference) it was just so fun. This on the other hand is justa bad season. It started out so great with a lot of potential then it becomes a watered down disaster of what it could've become, too little cast dynamic and not enough exploring for an anime called Journey's. Sun and moon didn't have that many regions to work but it surely kept every episode interesting it really rewarded people who watched the series. (Team rocket were at their highest in Sun and moon). Sad I just hope they start galar with goh splitting from the main cast. Like if he was a rival who ventured to learn more about pokemon, while progressively learning more about the legendary pokemon on his quest to catch all the pokemon then it would make for a more interesting goal to aim for. They need to split goh and ash to become rivals with each other they have the same way of thinking but with different ways of doing so (at least it was like that before...).

i know why this series is confusing its becuz its structure as an episodic anime with no story just characters which i think is fine some of the modern anime that ppl common to watch are episodic type genre. i myself experience with a lot of type episodic tv series which is maybe why im not bother with it and just feel that this series is just your typical anime.
@Shinepikavee3 жыл бұрын
Agreed. I'm not bothered either but that might be because I literally read reviews and got an idea of what the show was like before going into it. I also watch episodic shows so that helps. Plus interviews and reviews gave me a good idea what to expect and I prepared myself to change the way I view the show so I could enjoy it for what it is. I used the same method on Pokemon journeys as when I watched many different sonic cartoons that are completely different from one another.It prepares the brain to focus on different elements and gives full preparation that I'm going into a new show that will likely run differently. So once understanding the Pokemon anime is now advertising Pokemon go and is focusing on catching and is episodic, it's easy to see that the show was going to have a very different structure than prior. Ash winning the league made me suspect he'll have less focus. I know that sounds weird but a really old interview with someone from the company literally stated they would end the show if Ash won a league. Obviously that changed but the main point is they had no plans on what to do with him after the league thus floundering we see now. So I suspected he'd be a side character. So the way I'm watching is not the same as prior. It's literally a different show to me and I'm fine with that.

To be honest about Pokemon Journey Series, before the Series was released I originally though Ash would start his journey in the Galar Region like he always do in the past with other Region with Goh as his traveling companion. I also though that that Ash will catch two of the Galar Statrer Pokemon (Sobble and Grookey) like he does back in Pokemon Sun and Moon (Rowlet and Litten) as well as competing in the Galar League and earning Gym Badges too but unfortunely that never happen. As for Goh I have no problem with him catching more Pokemon because he's doing what Ash should have done during his journey, except that Goh could have evolved some of his unevolved Pokemon if he wants to fill his Pokedex instead of catching their fully evolved because keeping unevolved Pokemon like Caterpie, Metapod, Weedle, Kakuka, Pidey, Magikarp and other Pokemon that Goh caught are pointless and useless since he never used them a lot in his journey.

In all honesty I’m a bit surprised and relief because I’ll be honest Pokémon is a favorite for every generation of fans new or old because of how it’s storyline went. So I agree with a lot of comments in the video, I feel like Goh being shoved in the spotlight and is expected to be liked over the continuous story of Ash. Have episodes here and there focusing on Goh's story of catching all pokemon to get to mew is fine but having them being the majority of episodes, it leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Aside from that, it's starting to feel normal for Goh to just throw a ball to catch pokemon, not because of pokemon go, but because aside from its new take, it speeds up Gohs progress to get closer to mew. The last thing I want to bring up is something I don't know if it's been covered here or by the creators but with all the places, people, pokemon and experiences Ash and Pikachu have had, why does Ash rarely talk about his past. Like unless the episode is about a very small fraction of his past, it "never happened" per say. Like if Ash had to battle a greninja for rating with the world championship, you could easily bet that Ash won't mention his own greninja who went to help Zygard at the end of XYZ. even if he didn't mention that part, he probably wouldn't bring up that he had a greninja. Movies aside from this, I hate that none of this gets brought up often enough. As well, if the episode is about Ash's past, for example the infernape episode, I was very much excited since Ash's infernape is my favorite from the DP series and I feel they did him dirty by not letting him battle much and seeming like he got beat too quickly. Plus the battle felt like it was supposed to be 1v1 but then the others joined in and infernape did nothing once they did :/ I keep watching because there still is some interesting points and more curiosity to see where they take the show, but honestly, I hope they put in an actual multi episode story that lasts longer then the eternatus story

Early Pokémon journeys was actually really fun to watch because they went to unique locations in other regions with each episode having a fun story, you could be in snowpoint city exploring ruins and the next episode on the beaches of alola chilling with a pyukumuku, while newer episodes kinda strayed away from the whole ‘all regions’ concept It feels like it has a lot to offer don’t get me wrong, it’s just not going for it. Plus the fact that ash feels like the traveling companion to goh despite him being the main protagonist, and koharo is barely there. It’s just goh running around with ash commentating it with koharu being a surprise guest ever now and again.
@theflyingdropbear20092 жыл бұрын
the biggest issue isn't necessarily the characters, but rather the structure of the saga, there is no rhyme or reason to each of the episodes, they are self-contained stories, that do not contribute to the overall "plot". every other saga had an overall structure to it, while there were self-contained stories, there was still a contribution to the overall plot, as such, there is no sense of cohesion in this saga, there is nostalgia bait with older characters making cameos, but it does not translate to a decent narrative. but that being said, Goh is part of the problem as well, he is nothing but a billboard for Pokemon Go, which is a problem because it is the antithesis of what the anime has built itself on over the years, Goh catches a pokemon, but doesn't bond with those pokemon. He is too overbearing in the series, as it concerns both Chloe and Ash, as the former has the capacity to be a compelling character, but she doesn't appear often enough to justify her place in the series. I would rate this saga 2/5 there are some decent battles and a couple of the returns are decently handled, but the overall structure of the saga is poorly done, along with a lot of wasted potential, which is unfortunate, as this could have been a brilliant saga, if done right. I think the Pokemon anime team, will get this series over sooner rather than later, then go back to what made the Pokemon anime strong, get Ash back on the road, get rid of Goh, and bring a new cast of characters that complement one another more effectively like it was in the past.

At first, I wasn’t too keen on Ash being replaced and I wouldn’t say its the best way to end his but assuming if this is his last series, I would be honestly fine with with this considering there’s not much to do left with Ash’s character in which by itself is good and bad because eventually we need to change it but at the same time, its going to somewhat create an complaint of “I want Ash to say” or something similar among the lines and I don’t think that Goh is “unanimously” hated because there are probably others who like Goh considering that I personally see fanart of him all over the place but they probably just don’t like the way he’s written and want Ash/Satoshi to be more active. #Anipoke #PokemonJourneys

I didn't really hate Goh as character to be transparent here *but... I have a few complains within the series:* (Edit:) *1. I didn't like how the writer executed Scorbunny's development.* -it's because, Scorbunny was suppose to be a cool pokemon when it first came out in the anime. Especially knowing that it was going to be Goh's first pokemon. I really loved he's backstory which is, he was living on the streets in Galar that he then feeds a poor group of Nickits who are also homeless like him by which he also views each of one of them as his younger siblings. And... remembering too the time when Scorbunny tried to chase the train and catch up to Goh because he decided that he wanted to be his trainer, that was really precious. BUT when Scorbunny evolved to Raboot. I really hated it! Why? First, they had to evolve Scorbunny so early in the series, ofcourse we get it that by sometime Scorbunny would eventually evolve to Raboot but it doesn't have to be in this episode where he was still trying to master his ember. It just made it so anticlimactic when Scorbunny evolved to Raboot because it wasn't suppose to evolve like that just by that one accomplisment! Second, I really expected that Scorbunny would stay as it is for awhile because on how cute it was when he and Goh were being friends with each other. And the iconic feet high-five was super epic! And also it doesn't have to be always a pokemon to evolve in order to be strong! Like Ash's Unova team, Oshawott and Snivy they didn't evolve until the end of the series, even though Tepig evolved but it had a reason why it needed to evolve to prove his worthless trainer that he was a jerk for abandoning him! But Scorbunny hadn't been in a most tough situation that would really require an evolution, and come on Scorbunny only fought Team Rocket and at that time there weren't even machines and robots stuff like that they need to fight like in the past. It was a lousy rushed script in order for Scorbunny to evolve. And Piplup too in Diamond and Pearl, Piplup... they didn't even made him evolve. And in the end what made it so touching was that Piplup remained as being Piplup, it made it more relatable and moving when Pikachu and him had to part ways. We wouldn't have valued the journey and story of Piplup if it evolved into Prinplup. That's why I wanted Scorbunny's development being done with more care. And now I don't know what is Scorbunny to Goh now as Cinderace... it's like they don't share anymore a strong connection with each other. Although Goh brings out him to battles sometimes but there isn't much interaction between the two... so dissapointing... *2. Tokio lasted only for one episode.* -what I loved about this episode was, that Goh had a childhood friend. What made me interested about Goh's childhood friend, it was his first and only friend that Goh ever had. They became close with each other after unintentionally meeting each other in the woods. But it ended just because of a misunderstanding. But later they reunited and cleared all the misconceptions. BUT I'm so sad that Journeys decided not to bring Tokio to the series or make him tag along with Goh and Ash for more future episodes because one reason, Koharu wasn't still yet present and focused in the story. Why I'm complaining about this is because, Goh and Tokio's friendship ended really tragically. It made Goh really suspicious when it comes to friendship. But after both their reunion, they cleared and patch things up together. And I found that really touching. But I hate that Journeys didn't see the potential of that relationship and threw that oppurtunity away to make it more of a better story. Because Goh and Tokio's friendship felt more raw compared to him and Ash.(in my opinion) So that is just my complains of the series, I have a few more but I have hard time in summarizing my comment so... this is just the two I hated in the series.

I actually haven’t watched any episode of the series, only clips on KZbin from time to time!

When I started to watch your channel (about the time Sun and Moon came out), you inspired me to watch pokemon anime again, so I watched S&M. I sometimes agreed and sometimes not about the ratings, but you were constantly making the point, that funny faces and slapstick comedy ruined S&M anime, but my opinion was actually different. Sure, it felt like a different thing, than pokemon anime I watched so far (which is everything up to Advanced Battle and couple of DP episodes), but I believe it was designed to feel that way, as it no longer was about badges and journing, but about the S&M gang spending time at "school", but mostly at vacation. Sure, at first I didn't like the artstyle, but later it was clear it's that way to cooperate with the comedy, as it wasn't forced, but just all over the place. I stayed, because of characters, their growth etc. and thus it didn't feel like bullcrap for me to give Ash the title of a champion as his journey felt earned even if it didn't have an epic conclusion. Overall fun experience, but for Journeys, it's a different story. You see, I don't really see the change in overall feel. It feels just as goofy as S&M, but I stopped watching, because there was a lack of something. Ironically, it was the journey. You see, S&M had a problem with too many characters to focus on and so nobody, but Ash and Lillie got the time of focus they deserved, but the side effect of this was that if anyone of the cast had a focused episode, they got some good character development. Now journey's cast on the other hand is too small. Sure there is Koharu, but she's really underused, which as much as it can sound like picking stereotypes, gave up the delicate feeling of the cast with both Gou and Ash being energetic and wanting adventure, while if not with pokegirl, you could always get these feelings of calm with others from the gang, yet here you can't relax for a moment and thus it feels as though nothing changes as there is little to none change of pace. That and with getting from one point in the world to another with relative ease, it doesn't feel quite earned. Even in S&M being in basically one place, they've always done a lot of things before moving on to adventures on the next island. So when I hear you saying you think it's better than S&M, I want to make you think, is it really. I haven't watched XY anime for comparison, so I understand if you feel bitter about the change in humour etc. but did really that much change from S&M on this front? Personally, I think not. But in the end, I know I haven't talked about it much, as you've pretty much covered it yourself, but I think that comment you pointed out maybe wasn't so stupid afterall, as all the flaws of Journeys both which I talked about and you discussed lead from and lead to one character: Gou.
