Everyone Forgets, because of Chinese Propaganda, that the US, Japan, UK, Australia, Canada (no matter what Trudeau says), and one can easily assume France and x amount of the EU, are all on board to attack China if it starts War. Add up those Navies and Air Forces, add up those Land Masses, Resources, Active Professional Military Numbers, Military Industrial Complex, and even compare the amount of Fight Age Men, and I mind you, the US gets None Americans to Join, to become American, so we can draw upon x amount of the fight age men across both American Continents, as with Materials and War Materials. As a Singaporean, one of the things our history books constantly reminded us was that "we are ultimately responsible for our own defense, no one else would be responsible for defending our country when it comes down to war". Ironically, the one who taught us this lesson the hard way was none other than Imperial Japan in WWII. So yea, mixed feelings about them picking up arms again. But if it comes down to containing the growing geopolitical threat projected by China, I think they would have to do something to break the status quo.

Agree completely, the defence strategy of just being a territorial force is as archaic as it gets, you can't sit back and let the foe throw bombs at you at their leisure. @@tylermiller7943 I mean for crying out loud, WW 2 was over 50 years ago now, Japan has shown they only want peace. Yet China still eyes them with suspicion. You don't see the US holding a grudge with with Japan, Italy, Austria, or Germany. They've all become strong allies, while China and Russia continue with threats, Russia's already shown with Ukraine that they can't be trusted, and China is trying to bully others out of the South China Sea. I thin the US is the only reason they don't go to war with other countries that are US allies. They know it would pretty much be mutually assured destruction. Most wars the US have fought have ben justified to some degree, WW 1 and 2, easy. Vietnam and Korea, stop the spread of Communism so Democracy can reign, War on Terror, controversial, but someone had to at least teach the Jihadis a lesson, even if how it was handled was pretty bad. China has no logical reason for what it's doing, it's a bully, and rarely tries to work with others, a war for Taiwan is unjustified. And right now all they're doing is making an alliance against them possible, there could be an alliance of Taiwan, US, Australia, Japan, South Korea, India, Vietnam, Phillis, and others who want China to behave.

@@gidi3250 In fairness both the German and French armies ended up throwing raw recruits into the line by the end of 1914 as well. See the “Kindermord” of the First Battle of Ypres. The French threw young recruits in following their catastrophic losses in August and September. The biggest issue wasn’t that the quality of troops declined to a level below the French and Germans it was that British commanders didn’t have experience of commanding large formations and they encountered the same difficulties all sides did when it came to offensive action in trench warfare. All that is to say, that while we may have a small army, NATO commanders do have experience of commanding some large formations we will also most likely be under American command at the Army group level so it wont matter as much. The Japanese aircraft carriers specifically can only accommodate the F-35Bs, which are the ones with vertical takeoff and landing capabilities, because they used to be helicopter carriers. They also have 2 more smaller helicopter carriers that can be converted for this purpose. The four combined could carry about as many fighters as China's huge new aircraft carrier, just to put it in perspective. So semi-secretly, Japan can already project some air power overseas. If Japan and the US intentionally set it up this way to sneak up on everyone, that's extremely clever. There's no hiding the construction of aircraft carriers, unless people don't think they're aircraft carriers. As a Japanese, I would like to express my opinion that Japan has not the slightest intention of invading other countries with military power. We just need to be strong enough to defend our country from China & Russia, that are trying to invade our country. Until now, because we were under the aegis of the US, and enemies were not increasing their military activities, we thought that the conventional military force we had could protect the peace in our country. However, in light of the situation where the power of the US is weakening and China is growing stronger, we have decided that we cannot protect our country with the military power we have now. (Forgive my DeepL English.)

For westerners, it may not matter if Japan is invaded by China or Russia, but for us it is a serious matter. Westerners think of the Axis powers as eternally evil, but we are different now.

Japan has quite a bit of history with invading across the sea into Korea, China and even Russia. Japan is inherently limited to its geography being a densely populated island with few natural resources. Maybe the situation now is defensive but what about 20 years time?

@@dadikkedude Indeed, the depletion of oil has forced Japan into war. That is true. However, today Japan has diversified its imports of crude oil, LNG, and coal to reduce the risk of energy depletion. And we have plenty of nuclear power plants and water resources. So, Japan is unlikely to invade a foreign country because of energy depletion. Besides, Japan is not exactly a puppet state, but it is basically running its government according to the will of the US. As long as US domination continues, Japan will not and cannot invade a foreign country, no matter how many years it may be in the future.

@@dadikkedude Japan would still be the same. You underestimate how much the Americans have changed the country. Before, Japan was trying to establish an empire similar to the British. After the Americans, they funneled their ambition towards their corporations. Most first world advanced economies do not care about territorial gains. They know it is useless most of the time. The past few wars the Americans have been involved in, were purely out of fear of some enemy. Not for territorial reasons. The Americans gained very little oil wealth from Iraq and Afghanistan, and have lost more than they have gained. The only thing Americans gained, was a renewed sense of security, even with the Taliban takeover. But that is it. I would say China is much more likely to warmonger than Korea or Japan. Simply by merit of the old CCP governors from Mao time, such as XiJinping, that still have the old mentality of territorial gains.

Japan's problem in population is awkwardly being filled up by the people they previously invaded. Many Indonesians, Malaysians, and Filipinos are becoming Japanese nationals, and is slowly occupying professional roles in Japan. Japan is also the most reliable ally an Asian nation can get, because the common threat almost every nation has, is the China. Other super powers like India, and South Korea, can only do or interfere little. For example, even if Taiwan and India make alliances, and China declares war on Taiwan, all China can do is to secede its occupied Indian territory, and India won't bother anymore, and won't risk losing thousands of men to no gain. South Korea won't also risk as much as the threat with North is dangerous if North decides to interfere with opposing side too. Japan on the other hand, although it would be hard for their main land to be invaded, an enemy force can harass and strangle its economy in seas, and Japan will destroy itself from the inside with protests and massive economic breakdown. Enemy forces can cause famine, economic blockade, and shelling. That is why Japan sees the nation around it as a lifeline, even in WWII, they already knew it, and even during Meiji restoration. Philippines, Taiwan, Malaysia, Singapore, and Indonesia are the countries that Japan must defend as if they are defending their country. That is why they are the most reliable ally these Asian nations can get (particularly East and South East Asians). Japan will risk and fight with everything they have, and they also invested in these countries so much, and these foreign populations along with native Japanese population are perfectly integrated to one another due to the Japanese culture's popularity in the 21st century.

Seeing them take back roles and responsibilities in the defense of the Pacific after learning hard lessons in WW2 makes me feel privileged to be a part of their remilitarization. Hopefully Article 9 can be amended and the Japanese public will shift to a more favorable view of their defenders. As for the steadfast men and women of the JSDF, I’m happy to count them as Allies. From the US, I dislike the way the video characterizes American attitudes towards Japan. Yes, our nations were at war in WW2, but ever since, our nations have had very warm relationships. I certainly consider Japan one of my favorite foreign nations, if not my favorite outright. If Japan wants to rearm, I see no problem with that whatsoever. The Japanese people have embraced democracy with fervor, recognizing the value of personal freedom, liberty, and human rights. So yes, as an American, I love Japan and her people. The only people who get to decide Japan's future are the Japanese people.

After the Iraqis invaded Kuwait, we saw the sheer powerhouse the Americans can be, once they have the political willpower. Iraq was the 4th largest military in the world had 10x more modern and updated equipment than Ukraine. Iraq was litterally the most defended country in that time. Yet Iraq was taken in 48 hours and was systematically dismantled to the point it could not even be considered a war. It seems to me increasingly that we seem to have been oblivious that the post World War II international order, the so called Cold War did not in fact end in the 1989-1991 period, but rather concluded the second act, and we have now finally reached the final one. Japan building aircraft carriers for the first time since ww2, and ironically calling one Kaga, after the original lost during the battle of Midway, really seems to me as an assembling of a full cast of actors for some kind of international endgame no one can predict. In a way it reminds me of the decade before ww1, with all players arming themselves, all chess pieces being put into place, initial proxy clashes between the major powers, and everyone just waiting for that final spark to set off the powder keg, with no one apparently being able to prevent it.

They way you describe this all, really makes it seem like the world wars are a novel series... A *Trilogy* if you will, which is both disturbing yet intriguing because you're right. And the way I see it is The prologue is the war of 1870s (the franco prussian war, one of the main sparks between those two bitter rivals) Ww1(also known as Book 1), the first installment, all the european players are armed and eager to fight, only to come out of it not only devastated but absolutely traumatized (most specifically france) the european world order was forever rewritten, never to return to what it was past. Then the interlude being the interwar being the rise of communism, fascism and imperialism, which back then grew only in the darkest alleys now finding their foothold in the mentally scarred population of the "central powers" of the past (most specifically germany and austria) whilst nations like the US and the UK were in a sense of decline until the central powers, now under a new name finally had the chance to strike, which comes... WW2(Book 2), now with their asian ally to the east who's imperial goals came far before that of germany and Italy, the japanese come into play since 1905 they've played a dominant yet quiet role (seemingly similar to now) Europe once more is under fire, with both east and west falling with relative ease, the french, once so proud and mighty, they who bled the germans dry before in the battlefields of verdun and many more was still traumatized, horrified, and weakened by the events and was unable to recuperate and adapt unlike their reformed foes, which is why they had fallen so quickly as they did now, whilst britain, protected by the ocean and it's high seas fleet since the era of Napoleon was but an arms reach of the reich. Still defiant but they were close if not for the same american allies who broke the first world war's stalemate, supplying them dearly. Now come the USSR, the lesser of two evils in this great war, which became Germany's next target, which would soon be a grave mistake, despite seeming like the russian empire at first, it's economy and sheer production capabilities soon slowed and showed the nazis that they were no longer the incapable military as for the time of the tzar but something completely different, things play out and the European theater comes to a close, which brings us to japan. Who at this time thought after years of promptly gathering strenght in silence thought they could finally have the strength to push their ww1 agenda of "liberating" the asian colonies whilst also solving their blockade crisis by the americans by blitzing them, which didn't occur. As narcissism soon made them underestimate their american foes who unlike in the first world war, actually was at serious threat by the japanese, up until midway which then completely turned the fight, much like the kursk of the eastern front, once they lost the initiative it was all to over for this empire. Now i can continue further but the cold war up until now would be a long explanation, now if we go by a trilogy then, it really would seem like the "endgame" of our geopolitics would most definitely be the third world war

War is a continuation of politics by other means. Communist China in the Xi Jinping era has sought out a new Cold War, and continuously stated that it intends to use military force to capture all its claimed lands in the South China Sea, including Taiwan. This is why everyone is arming for conflict: just as Austria crossing the red line of invading Serbia started WWI, just as Germany crossing the red line of invading Poland started WWII, and just as the Soviets crossing any number of red lines could have started WWIII, Communist China invading Taiwan would be crossing a red line and start WWIII. In each of these cases, the world armed for conflict when the crossing of a red line became a real possibility. Twice we devolved into world war, with the original Cold War only the possibility of a nuclear exchange stopped us, hopefully that will be the case again (though it’s unclear these days whether countries would actually use nukes, even in a world war, which may unfortunately limit the inhibitions of malign actors). But it’s totally understandable why the world is arming: Beijing has sworn to invade a place that Washington has likewise sworn to defend.

Precise 105 billion for Japan and around 95 billion for Germany. As for Italy they quit the BRI but they're likely to get overshadowed. The days of USA being the only world power are over. Same for China and Russia. Russia's days are numbered and China is decaying rapidly. Most likely we will see the rise of regional powers who have good relations with eachother. Israel for the middle east. Japan and India for most of Asia. Germany for Europe (or France or Poland if they rise) Turkey for the Balkans. Usa for North and maybe South America. (Brazil could be the regional power for South America) And Africa would pretty much be a wild card on who rules. Most likely Christian Africa vs Arab Africa. I think the world is heading towards regional powers that get along and perhaps Africa? This period would ofc end probably by some African power. What do you think?
