Dotonbori, lined with giant three-dimensional billboards such as Shochikuza, Kani Doraku, and Glico, is a typical downtown area in Minami, Osaka. The name Dotonbori comes from the name of Doton Yasui, who gave up his personal property to dig the river in 1612. After that, it flourished as an entertainment town for plays and kabuki, and the number of teahouses increased, which led to the current food and live entertainment town.
松竹座にかに道楽、そしてグリコの看板など、巨大な立体看板が立ち並ぶ道頓堀は、大阪・ミナミの代表的な繁華街。道頓堀の名は、慶長17年（1612）に私財をなげうって川を開削した安井道頓（やすい・どうとん）の名前に由来。その後、芝居や歌舞伎の娯楽の街として栄え、茶屋なども増えたのが、今の食とライブエンターテインメントの街のもとになりました。
