Gebo1 x Fire trucks in big cities like tokyo are very small to fit through narrow streets and heavy traffic. Fire fighters have to put on their entire gear before getting into a car because theres not much space to change while driving like european or american firefighters do.

@@xwhipeout___7497 UK/US has a "chute time" or time to get into your gear and out the door of 80-90 seconds. They were almost double that. Not to be mean or second guess their way of doing the job. But you understand where we're coming from.

I agree. I thought we were slow. We left our boots in our bunker pants outside the door of the rig so that we could climb into them quickly. Now, with computers and GPS, downtown can see precisely how fast crews are out the door. If the tones, night lights, and PA come on at 3 AM, and you can’t pause to take a quick leak!

Pedestrians didn’t even look up when they heard the siren. One lady purposely ran out in front of the approaching fire engine. Only one time did I ever see anyone do that, when a man slowly proceeded to walk in front of the paramedic ambulance I was driving with lights and siren. I attributed it to pride, but perhaps he was deaf and somewhat blind.

What are the small signs on top of the trucks but not the ambulances? I see some departments in Japan are white and others yellow. Are they the unit numbers or station numbers? Lived in Japan years ago Kanagawa Prefecture)( and totally enjoyed it and really enjoyed the people.

That is the unit number. This fire engine is written as "Shibuya 1".

Thank you so much. I lived in Kanagawa Prefecture years ago and worked with some city departments and the Japanese Self-Defence Ground Forces fire department. Enjoyed it immensely and have been back since then. Love Japan.

They do have garages/doors, but its a custom in Tokyo to leave them open during the day due to the frequency of calls and to create a more open and accessible environment to them for the local residents.

Alot of US departments leave the bays open during good weather, helps vent the fire house and makes it more inviting to residents. Remember, the department relies on the trust of the people. Gotta win hearts and minds to keep that trust, by both doing an outstanding job and being friendly.

Hair slower than most non-priority calls for the FDNY. They tend to take 2 mins to get out the door, less if its a major MVA or fire with persons reported inside, then they are out in 90 seconds or less.
