To ensure public confidence in the currency, the Japanese yen's six coins and four banknotes use a range of anti-counterfeiting technologies. New banknotes issued in 2024 are the first in the world to feature 3D holograms, and in 2021 the 500 yen was the world's first mass-produced coin with irregularly angled and spaced ridges on its edge. I got some of the new Japanese banknotes here in Australia. They're so beautiful that if I'm there in Japan, I'll have second thoughts of using them. Ha ha ha! So far, I can say that they're the most beautiful banknotes in my collection.

when I went to japan in 2016, I was surpreised that everybody LOVED that i had real cash. I always prefer to travel with cash as not to depend on any third party credit cards that may not work at the moment I need them most. I hope they continue to value cash, its much more reliable for travellers
