What's even worse, as I remember from Charlie's video on it, he never recovered from this. His mental state was so horrible that he wasn't able to talk to people without being nervous anymore, he couldn't become a comedian because of how nervous he was, and he couldn't wear clothes normally because they felt itchy on him after all that time without clothing. Edit: Why are you guys so adamant on calling me a liar? Is what I remember a lie or is it just what I remember?

THANK YOU! I was really upset that this channel just ended the video without telling us how he's doing now. He just told us what happened on the game show and then that's it roll credits. When I really wanted to know how he's doing now, if he has lasting health effects, if he did end up becoming a famous actor and used to this as a springboard for his career, how he ended up reintegrating into society, how being on the show affected him socially! This doesn’t seem the case, “ After the rigors he went through in order to become a famous comedian, Hamatsu was unable to succeed in the variety TV world. Instead, he became a local talent in his native Fukushima, as well as a dramatic stage actor, founding the stage troupe Eggplant Way, performing across Japan. He has appeared in Densha Otoko, Trick and Atashinchi no Danshi, and portrayed the character Watcherman in Kamen Rider W. He also appeared in the game 428: Shibuya Scramble. In 2016, Hamatsu successfully scaled Mount Everest after two aborted attempts in 2014 and 2015.”

Some of the TV shows back then were really ruthless... Nasubi has also been actively volunteering in his hometown Fukushima after the 2011 earthquake, and he has challenged Everest four times, succeeding in reaching the summit in 2016. Even about the harsh TV show he had to endure, he later commented, 'Through the Life of Prizes, I was mentally trained and became stronger.' He is a kind-hearted person with mental and physical strength. I sincerely wish for his happiness.

Very easy you make the show stay in a limbo between grotesque and curious also the narrator with his funny remarks and nasubi's progressively declining mental health that made him a very distant and random figure if you comparevit to your average japanese employee contributed to the de-humanization of nasubi in the eyes of the viewers making it a pretty funny stereotype of a crazy eremite

@@xlrbossshorts just as a mentally unfit person would not be able to stand trial, a mentally unfit person would not be able to consent. as someone who is consistently isolated, it takes a while to step back and process that my way of living would easily make someone else feel pathetic within hours. you cannot immediately be adjusted in just a day to come to the decision they gave him. he did not see how isolation was changing him as an outsider's perspective can. that's pretty obvious
@sugarparfait
@sugarparfait Жыл бұрын
@@xlrbossshorts i understand your point and where you're coming from, so i absolutely don't mean this negatively towards you (nor do i want to sound 'condescending'), just simply making discussion :) but you really do have to take into account the effects it had on his mental health / mentality that influenced his decision though. say for example a child is groomed by their parent consistently and then eventually grow to want to continue that relationship and consent to advances made by their parent, does that make it an okay or fully conscious decision? not at all. yes, it's dubious consent, the child said yes, but they never would have were it not for the circumstances and suffering they had to face which affected their mentality. a similar situation happens here in which he has been living under these conditions for a long time where we can visibly see the mental deterioration, and when given the choice to opt out for the 'second round', he says yes. because his mind was already so broken from the prior torture, the consent he gives here is also pretty dubious... yes, he's an adult who is capable of making good decisions, but after being trapped in a room for ages living primarily off of plain rice with no real social interaction, that adult gets worn down and ruined. the fact that they upped the stakes to prolong his torture without even informing him or asking if he wanted to go higher proves they couldn't really give two shits about real consent. (and really, who's to say they wouldn't try to convince him to stay regardless? i'm sure there'd be some attempt to manipulate or bribe him back into the show so they can milk him even more..) all in all, it was definitely not REAL consent, but it also wasn't entirely non consensual, hence why i believe it was dubious consent ^^ (i hope this made sense..)

I disagree. Brandon never told us what happened! The video just ended! He didn't tell us how his life is going now or what he's doing now or if he had lasting mental or physical health problems from the show. Imagine having the most traumatic experience of your life being broadcasted to millions of people, publicly available to all. I can't imagine how Tomoaki Hamatsu must have felt, but I am happy that he has since been able to move on with his life, becoming a comedian and scaling Everest 18 years later. I hope he is happy now, succeeding in life. Also, the wikipedia page of his mentions "In April 2020, Hamatsu tried persuading people to cooperate with the self-disciplined stay-at-home order during the wake of the initial COVID-19 outbreaks by citing his own personal experience with self-isolation." I am disgusted by the fact that people chose to not self isolate at the detriment of others, when this man was essentially coerced into it 😭

As a Japanese I can confirm Japan had these type of content back in the days and people really did anything to be famous. There were other crazy challenges people did and many of them are still famous now. Japanese tv shows were really f**ked up back then. Now these days restrictions became stricter and I never see thse types of tv shows. I'm sure some people enjoyed this content and I honeslty think that this person did hyperbole a little but I can agree to most of the things he mentioned

First off - Amazing video, Edited very creatively, and the storyline flowed very well Second - What happened to this guy is very sad. It shows that greed is a very powerful thing. Its terribly heart breaking to see his reaction when the box was opened and he was in pure shock and dismay. Third - i wish the video wouldve continued on showing how he is to this day. Does he have any social problems? Has he easily switched back to a normal civilian lifestyle? Is he mentally okay? Answering these questions would help bring a final conclusion to the storyline.

The sad thing is, it probably isn't illegal. the producers probably got him to sign a contract that would ensure anything they do would be legal. if he consented to it, they can't get in trouble(as far as i know). if they didn't those producers definitely need to go to court

Do you even know the "dark corners" of the culture of any country? It is well known that Japanese reality and game shows are masochists and Japanese TV is asinine, do you prefer to be exposed to dark sides of cultures with sugar, spice and everything nice covering them? This show is not nearly as vile as HoIIywood's inside businesses to this day, plus this happened in 1998, the show was taken off the air in 2002 because of Japanese laws created because of it. Ignorance is bliss, I guess.
