Daisy, Lucina and Dark Pit are clones because their animations are the same but Doc, Pichu, Roy, etc are Semi-clones because they share some moves yet have major differences in other moves.

(And call doc and others an echo fighter) That way u get alot of unique echo fighters. (Therefore since lucina holds the standard for an echo fighter we can assume new echo fighters wont have much differences to their counterpart, most will just see it as a mere costume change)

A remastered look of kraid and the stage 2 all if the important Metroid characters can be in smash together on one stage. I think the entire point of naming characters as echo fighters is so that they can distinguish between semi clones that take work and actual just complete copies that are included just to expand the roster. This is so people won't get mad at more characters being included because they do not take work.

Aight Ima clear it up. All echoes are clones, but not all clones are echoes. Echoes have the same stats, but different properties on some moves. Clones could have different stats, different properties, different animations, and sometimes even different moves altogether..

Echo fighters are characters that are A) from the same series as the character they echo B) have the EXACT SAME height, run speed, fall speed, jump height, profile (etc) C) have the EXACT SAME MOVE-SET, just some moves have slightly different properties to them. Just clearing this up cuz I'm tired of people not understanding this. There's no point in echo fighters being more different than this because then it defeats the point of even classifying them as echo fighters in the first place. Sakurai has established what is a clone and what isn't. Saying that Young link should be Links echo fighter, or Pichu should be Pikachu's just for the sake of saying echo fighters can be pretty different or pretty similar COMPLETELY nullifies the purpose of even classifying an echo fighter the way it has been classified. If you do that, soon Luigi's gonna be Mario's echo fighter cuz they have fireballs, same nair animation, back air animation, up air, up smash, down smash animations etc. Is Roy a Marth echo? Is Lucas a Ness echo? Is Falco a Fox echo? It then becomes a point of when do you draw the line. Echo fighters are what they are. The way it's been done doesn't need to be changed. Edit: My bad for the long post, people just seem to not get it lmao

At that point there's no reason to have echo characters at all because Sakurai should just make Lucina faster and frailer than Marth and give her a different up special, and Dark Pit should be stronger and slower and have orbiters for down special. The point about Dr. Mario specifically is that all of his differences in movespeed and animations are COMPLETELY ARBITRARY. Everything you said in your 3 points just now completely ignored Warchamp's entire argument and just parroted what everyone else already repeated over and over (while they also talked over him). Basically the point is that Dr. Mario and Mario could have just been averaged out and imho Mario could ditch FLUDD because who cares about that piece of shit anyway, and then there would be actually no gameplay differences, and they would 100% be labelled echo characters. To add a point of my own, if Smash had the echo label back in Melee, then Dr. Mario and Pichu (and even Falco) would have 200% been labelled as echo characters and been made less different from their originals. Sidenote, Ganondorf would be the only pseudo-clone that wouldn't have been an echo just because there was no real reason for Ganon and Falcon to randomly have similar movesets, and I'm glad they're finally giving Gandondorf some originality. Also a clarification, I think it makes sense for Roy (and I guess Luigi, while I'm at it) not to be echoes because they're obviously supposed to be different from their counterparts based on their games, which changes their gameplay in Smash, unlike characters like Daisy and Dr. Mario, who have no precedent in other games for being statistically different from their counterparts. (Except I'm not sure about Daisy in sports games). Lucina, though, even though she is statistically different from Marth, makes sense as an echo because in her game she was literally pretending to be Marth.

I think you misunderstood a few things I was pointing out and some things don't make sense here. 1) The differences in speed movement etc aren't arbitrary if that's how it's been programmed. 2) I agree back in melee those characters would be, i was just going with what Warchamp was saying in terms of how he thinks echo fighters can be "very different or near identical", which would ruin the definition of the label essentially if they're too different. 3) Luigi etc tbh was just me joking and kind of trying to say that you could point out a lot of similarities between characters and with warchamp's idea of saying "very different or near identical", how different yet identical do they need to be? That's why i exaggerated with Luigi...cuz how far apart yet identical would you be allowed to go? Ruins the point of an echo fighter. 4) Lucina isn't statistically different in any way from marth in smash except that marth has tippers and she doesn't.

I was understanding Warchamps stand on echo characters and Dr. Mario, but he went full tard on Mii fighters and custom moves. Items arent "banned", they are "turned off". The Mii Fighters "changeable" moves arent "Custom" moves?! The argument was not sound at all. It really just seemed like motivated reason to play a broken character (because no one really gave a fuck about gunner and swordfighter. I wonder why.) Miis (Mii Brawler) were not worth that much trouble.

Warchamp was actually using arguments from GimR's video essay on the legality of the Miis from maybe 1 or 2 years ago, and GimR goes more in-depth with those specific arguments so they can be more understandable.

The legality is easy to understand. Rules are subjective to the community and ultimately constructed. However, its hard to reconcile the use of semantic arguments in favor of a singular character that not only had balance issues, but also problems unique to that(ose) character(s). The issue with Mii Brawler wasnt a subjective legality issue, it was a pragmatic issue. The problems stemming from this singular character were not worth any potential nuanced game experiences that could be had otherwise.

Clones that are not Echo fighters are basically "Luigis" from 64. They share special moves but have altered normals and properties which changes their playstyle. If you like Mario but you also like heavy hitters, play Doc. If you like Link but prefer combos, go with Young Link. Changing movement properties (Run speed, fall speed, knockback) is a BIG deal and would thus make them more of a Luigi than an Echo.

The "what is/isnt an echo fighter" debate is dumb tbh. It is very simple. Just break down the characters into categories. Original- all new Semi-Clone- mostly different but borrows some assets (e.i. Falco and Lucas) Clone- character mostly based on an original character with some different properties in damage output, speed, weight ect (e.i. Pichu and Roy) Echo Fighter- character almost identical in speed, weight and use but has one of two minor changes and ascetic differences to make them worth having a character spot. (e.i. Daisy, Lucina, Dark Pit) In an interview, it was confirmed that Echo fighters will have the same weight, speed, and overall play mostly the same. Changes to Daisy's aesthetics, taunts and victory poses make her fans happy while not wasting time on a character that is not worth a full move set overhaul. Lucina and Dark Pit were just alternate skins and became Echo Fighters by default. Use Daisy as the model for what an Echo fighter is and how different they will be.

All you guys saying Doc shouldn't be an echo of Mario saying that it's just because he plays differently, that's true, but he only plays differently because of some arbitrary animations and numbers that never needed to be different in the first place. How about listening to the points being made instead of just repeating over and over that they play differently. They could have literally made Doctor Mario have the exact same playstyle as Mario including speed, damage, and animations (or probably somewhere in between Doc and regular Mario) and absolutely nothing would feel out of place because his slow speed has nothing to do with who he is as a character. The only core difference to him as a character is that he has no FLUDD. Pretty much the argument from all the naysayers implies that if they made Dark Pit randomly slower or Lucina faster for absolutely no reason other than to make them feel less like clones, then they shouldn't be echoes either.

Echo fighters share pretty much everything with the original aside from model and the damage/knock back properties of some moves. The moves themselves (hit boxes and animations), the physics of the character, most basic animations, and speed are nearly identical. Characters like Doc, Ganondorf, Toon Link, and Roy are based on another fighter in the game but they have too many differences to be Echos.

I think Alph is going to be the next announced character because in footage of the game you never see Alph with ANY PIKMIN he is not in the picture and he wasn't even mentioned in the trailers Sakurai never said anything about Alph NOT even when he was just a alternative costume and in early development of Smash 4 Alph was supposed to be a clone of Olimar and Alph would use ROCK PIKMIN but the idea of him being a separate character was scrapped due to time so Sakurai made him and alternative costume. SO MY theory is that Alph is going to be a clone of Olimar in smash ultimate and Alph will finally be a separate entity and Alph will use the ROCK PIKMIN

CLONES AND ECHO FIGHTERS ARE DIFFRENT THINGS. That person that was clearly wrong didn't realize it. the similar characters like doc and roy and clones. CARBON COPY characters that have only 1 difference (blade, hammer, etc). That is the clear difference between the two. yes they could have changed Lucina more to move her from echo to clone, but that takes dev time, which is the opposite of what echo fighters are supposed to use!

you know I'M american (sort of. I mean I was born here so I guess I have to be) but I agree, literally the only part of FOOTball in american football is the initial kickoff. Everything else is you carrying the damn thing to get to the goal. Soccer or football to the rest of the world is ALL feet only. It doesn't make sense.

Warchamp is a really bad game designer. I remember back during PM he vehemently opposed changes such as making shielddropping easier/consistent and what ended up happening? PM died and melee adopted UCF

Imgay Asheck except lots of major tournaments do not use UCF 2 is a problem with gamecube not with the actual game 3 making things easier for new players makes it less fun

lordmew5 it's bad design. There's no real reason it shouldn't be consistent. You forgot to mention that for those tournaments (that top players don't like basically universally) all the top players bring notched controllers, which according to your logic makes the game less fun because it makes it easier to shield drop. Don't you think it's ridiculous top players have to get controller mods to do a basic game mechanic? If it were easier to do consistently you would get so much more depth in the game even for non notched users.

Imgay Asheck the thing you don't understand is that in PM shield dropping is consistent it is just hard what you are proposing is doing what they did with short hop aerials. Short hop aerials is a consistent thing one can do in all smash games it's just kind of hard

lordmew5 it's only as consistent as your gamecube controller stick can hit very specific angles which basically none can. You are arguing for less depth in gameplay for literally no reason. You can't just bring up ucf and then switch it up when your argument is dismantled.

Imgay Asheck I didn't bring up UFC you did. My point is that unlike melee PM/brawl shield dropping is consistent the controller problem we have in melee doesn't exist for brawl or PM. it's hard to shield drop in PM but still consistent actually if melee had consistent shield drops like brawl or PM YCF would have never happened
