After the water purification plant was relocated, the 47-story Keio Plaza Hotel was built in 1971, and in 1991 the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building was relocated from Marunouchi. It was the forerunner of Japan's skyscraper district.
浄水場移転後、１９７１年に地上４７階建の京王プラザホテルが建築されたのを皮切りに、１９９１年には東京都庁が丸の内から移転。日本の超高層ビル街の先駆けとなった。
