Tsukishima is a town that was born as a reclaimed land at the mouth of the Sumida River in Tokyo. Tsukishima has developed into a downtown-like streetscape, and the candy shops in the alleys are especially crowded with children. Monjayaki began when a teppan grill was placed in the back of the store, and the flour was melted and fried thinly, then dipped in soy sauce or honey.
東京の隅田川河口の中州の埋立地として誕生した町、月島。 いかにも下町らしい街並みに発展した月島で、とりわけ子供たちで賑わっていたのが路地の駄菓子屋です。 店の奥に鉄板の焼台を置き、小麦粉を溶いて薄く焼いたものに醤油や蜜をつけて食べさせたのが、「もんじゃ焼」の始まり。
