It has been a while since I've posted a gouache painting and sharing with you the painting process! I missed sharing these kind of videos!
In this video I shortly included my creative process, from rough sketch of the first idea and composition for this piece, sketch, line-art, small colour thumbnail tests to decide the colour composition to final illustration!

This piece was inspired by old Japanese prints by Hokusai and Tsubaki flowers.

Oh gosh, this is so beautiful. My favorite part is the thin lines in the flowers that help transition between the darker and brighter colors. I really need to bring out my gouache again, because it’s been a while since experimenting and your last couple videos have been so tempting. But no, I must stay on course! Need to finish a stampmaking and then a soft pastels Skillshare course and THEN I can fumble around with gouache again. =>.

Thank you!! :D my favorite part of the whole painting process is always adding fine details and fine lines too! It's so relaxing❤️ and I just love that with gouache I'm able to paint light on dark! ahaha I love your relationship with gouache!!😂😄 yes definitely bring your gouache out when you have time!! I also would love to use again watercolours and acrylic since it's from a long time I haven't played with them, but right now I don't have the time!! Inktober is coming soon so I first have to remember how to use inks 😂 it's such a long time I haven't used them!!

I love the colors you have used in this piece. I find it fascinating to see all the sketches and work that went in the painting, it makes me feel a bit better that I am not the only one not being able to draw perfectly the first time I draw something.

Aww thank you you're too kind!! 💖 I'm always in favour of combining more mediums in a painting! because why not! No matter in what way or what mediums you use, as long as you reach your wished result then it what matters! :) As you know gouache can behave like watercolour so I'm sure you won't have difficulties to work only with gouache! 👍

Thank you for watching!! painting has always been a relaxing thing for me^^ ahaha but it wasn't that easy! the hardest part was using this colour palette by finding a good colour composition, although using orange and blue together is one of my favourite colour palette! and it took me about 3 hours just to paint this piece! but the time I invested it was worth it! ^^

I made a series of waterfall illustrations (you can see them on my Instagram if you're curios😉) like this one, so I'm going to upload the painting process of the others as well! maybe not all of them but 3 of them for sure :) Also, for the next months I'm going to share more gouache painting that I already recorded the painting process and I just need to edit the videos! so I hope you'll look forward to them as well ^^

I don't know why but I always forget to record what gouache colours I use and when I mix them to create colours, but if I recorded them for the next paintings I will make sure to include those footages! I always want to make a video about colour mixes and colour combination!! but I still haven't found the time do make those videos! I've always been passionate about colours and one of my strengths in my art is colour composition and colour combination! Which I would love to share on my channel and get into details on how I decide what colours to choose and more! Hi Sandra, thank you so much for sharing this beautiful painting and the amaazing process, i was completely mesmerised by it! i recently stumbeled over the concept of gouache yesterday and am researching like crazy since then. after watching people paint it and especially you and explaining everything so well i NEED to get myself a set and start experimenting. i was experimenting wit pastell watercolers which are nixe but kind of tricky for me (layering from light to dark and leaving out the white areas), gouache is what i really needed to free my inspiration! as i saw you painting the first light blue areas with the regular paint i was SHOCKED!! that was a magical moment! and then when you simply rubbed it off again!! AMAZING! which brand would you reccommend buying? Schmincke, caran d'ache, holbein? ore something completely different? and i am still torn back and forth between tubes or pans? thank you so much, Camilla

@@sandraruberto8806 Hi Sandra, thank you so so much for this detailed answer! i could not wait for your reply so i ended up buying a set of tubes from winsor and newton after watching many videos and reviews! :) since then i am experimenting and learning a lot, it is just a wonderful experience! i am also happy that i went with tubes because as you say i could always put them in pans but for now i really enjoy the mixing and i really like looking at my colourful palette after i am done :) i live in südtirol in northern italy so we are almost neighbours :) thank you so much for introducing me to this beautiful medium and i hope you are going to share more of your mesmerizing art with us, i surdenly will keep following you and steal some inspiration from you if i may ;) all the best wishes to you!

I think it takes time and practice to know well how to use any kind of mediums, but maybe using a different type of paper might help you! I recently bought a mixed media paper for painting with gouache, I tried to use gouache in a more watercolour style on this paper but it didn't behave well, so I tried to use it opaque with less water and the result was much better! All paper behaves so differently and maybe using a type of paper suitable for mixed media it "obligates" you to use gouache in a different way, which might help to get it right! but I don't know if my suggestion and might really helps xD

Not really a reference but I got inspiration by the Japanese waterfall woodblock prints by Hokusai, check it out they're so beautiful! :)
