I have my original black Nikon F from 1969. Still works but I don't use it anymore. It has a prominent spot on my display shelf of old cameras. Nikon ingraved my name on the camera since I got an employee discount from the shop where I was working and they discouraged re-sales.

The willingness to make these cameras and be uncompromising in their engineering and construction represents the best attributes of Nikon. Yup, the price of entry is high but you do get something special in return and the intangibles of these cameras will always appeal to a devoted if limited audience. Those colors from the images look pretty nice as well, they definitely a particular look to them.

What would be much cooler than a re release of the Nikon F would be just a normal new film camera that wouldn't be limited nor ludicrously expensive, just like a fm3a replacement

@SAGGING_GUT4 жыл бұрын
If I might chime in... the M3 in my opinion is a much better camera - nicer finder, parralax correction, focusing is smoother/easier with all lenses. The things I like about the nikon rangefinder system is the weight - cameras are much lighter for people who actually want to take photographs - similarly, the Nikon 50 1.4 is likely my favourite lens. Incredible rendering, much smaller than Leica's 50 1.4 and is literally less than a sixth of the price.

I got a minty Nikon 8008s with a brand new shutter. This was the smaller precursor to the very popular 90s. Back in the day, Nikon and Canon got into a metering segment war. The 8008s fell to this war, but I never got a bad exposure with it, and it was more compact than the 90s. I got the data back, and electronic shutter release . . . but, my Nikon F equivalent is a Pentax ES, the first TTL automatic exposure SLR. You set the aperture, but the camera set the shutter with continuous settings. And the sound of that shutter . . . kchunk.

I agree, I bought my D750 in 2017 and there's just a little gold "shield" on the box, it would have been such a nice touch to have put a 100th anniversary badge on the camera itself, or changed the colour of the FX logo to gold or something like that. Or, as you say, to release another repro model of a film camera.

I like how you present your cameras that are mint to near mint condition. IMO that is important if you consider selling it and many cases get quick response because people like buying old , used cameras in mint condition for one of the reasons they want to be sure they function properly after all these years. And just looks good in mint condition. BTW, can you recommend a reliable trustworthy Japanese seller in Japan selling old cameras - slr, rangefinders, nikon, canon, and Leicas? Thanks, would appreciate it. If you know 2 to 3 Japanese sellers of old cameras that have excellent reputation of great customer service. If you sell some cameras, I'd be happy take a look at them ( on your website ) and when Im ready to buy, I'll let you know. Thanks!

I have several Nikon F cameras. They're built like bricks and fun to use from time to time, but it's pretty clear that the F was a first try at an SLR. The ergonomics aren't great (the shutter release, for instance, is in an odd place) the removable back is inconvenient, the meter, if present, is primitive. They're pretty noisy. If Nikon brought out a new Nikon F, I don't think I'd buy one, even if the price was reasonable. I'd much rather see one of their later, more developed products, maybe an F3 or FM3a. Although of course, they don't have the same historical value as the F. I guess it might be fun to have a new black FtN with a meter that actually worked.

Instead of reproducing the Nikon F, perhaps making an FM4a might do the trick to help Nikon's finances? Compared to the FM3a, the FM4a could have LED bars in the viewfinder to easier see the shutter speeds at night as well as an optional grip as seen on Olympus OM4 and OM3 cameras. I think the analog community market is now ripe for an FM4a, the FM3a came at a time when everyone was switching over to digital.
@ofeykalakar14 жыл бұрын
That sounds like the Voigtlander R3M. The way you describe the led indicators. Otherwise the shutter fires without battery on both the FM3A and R3M. Have both and are fantastic analog cameras. The R3M is fully mechanical. The FM3A has an aperture priority mode.

I know Nikon were slow to commit properly to the mirrorless market because they didn't want to damage their SLR sales, but I find bizarre, given how Fuji (yuck) had/have so much success with their faux retro cameras that nobody at Nikon made a digital camera that looked exactly like the Nikon S, or better yet re-release a film Nikon S at the same time. They wouldn't even need to make a hundred different lenses for it. 3 would be enough. When you put a real camera like this next to an X100, you realise how ugly modern cameras are. But then I also find it bizarre that Fuji (yuck) don't re-release their MF rangefinders adapted to shoot instax, or any kind of decent instax camera....
