As many of you know, they have good beer like Sapporo, Asahi, Kirin, etc. But the way beers are served at restaurants and bars are very different fron what we are used to.
In this video, I'm going to introduce you to Japanese beer culture from Izakaya Miyako, one of the best bars/ramen restaurants in my opinion.

In the UK our beer normally has about 5% foam (but here we call it head). Too much head and you are considered a bad Bartender :) thanks for the videos!

That is much better than 30% foam standard in Japan :)

Head is also used here in the States, but usually by people who are bartenders or seasoned beer drinkers. Head percentage is also about the same, depending on where you go. Most places are about 5% head, but some places you get up to 10%. I've had both and as long as the beer is cold and not stale (it won't be at any self-respecting restaurant or pub) it tastes equally as good to me.

Although I can't tell much difference, if it's not too much, head is OK. 30% is just brutal :)

Hello, Akira! I enjoy your videos a lot. Keep on the good work! I’d like to suggest a “how to” to “the complete book of scales, chords, arpeggios & cadences” you talked about in another video. I’m sure you could suggest how to study the book. I’m pretty sure I’m doing wrong in just going page after page playing the notes written, in some robotic way 😅. Hope to hear from you in that subject. Cheers from Brazil

Germany is the same way. I’m American and love Japanese beer. I think the no foam draft is more of an American attitude. I’ve never been to Japan and it’s on my too three bucket list. You are extremely fortunate to be able to go and be multilingual on top of it! Have fun

I think it also has to do with the type of beer most popular in the US, most beers on tap here are IPA or light lagers and for those the foam is undesirable, but if you order a stout or ale they will serve it with a thick head as long as the pourer knows what they’re doing

I'm learning so much. Glad I made this video :) By the way, most of Japanese beer is lager...

It really is a culture thing, you see head used in a lot of European styles for the same traditional reason, but here in America it's bad manners to cheat the customer out of beer unless you are specifially ordering a Guiness. But as someone who judges beer, the head can give you so many details on the recipe and how it was brewed, even if there is an infection in certain styles.

Nice video. I'm more of a vodka and sake drinker. The weirdest thing they do here in the US is serve sake warm. Which I think is gross.

They do that in Japan, too, especially when it's cold. Warm sake in cold weather at a food stand is the best :)

Here in Brazil the ideal amount of foam (which we call "collar" around here" is around 2 fingers. Beer with no foam is just awful and to much foam is really a rip off

Foam (head) is good for a beer if it's natural I notice Japanese beers add foam after pour which is very odd Beer foam like in Czech and German beers can be big especially wheat beers and it adds to the beer flavour. Japanese clear beers seem like they are adding foam using carbonation techniques with the pour machines and cans rather than the foam being a natural part of the beers own carnation

When you pour beer at home, foam occurs naturally (sometimes too much). So it's not like Japanese beer don't have natural foam. I always thought they add foam afterwards to keep it consistent, but I'm actually not sure. I have yet to try real German beer, except at local German restaurant, but I'm not sure how authentic it is. I'd love to visit Germany for Octoberfest! And to experience classical music culture, of course...
