I very much appreciate this video explaining so much about getting started with Japanese embroidery. Very useful indeed. I see questions about the embroidery frame and would like to point out that, although a canvas frame is a very nice substitute, there are lots of needlework frames available in the market and online. I did simple search for ‘needlework scroll frame’ and many results came up. Those frames are available, among others, from The Stitchery catalog, the craft stores Michael’s and JOANN’S, Etsy, Amazon, and many others in a wide range of prices and styles. Best wishes from a fellow embroiderer.
Shizusa thank you for recommending a cheaper frame - I want to practice new techniques on habutae but japanese frames cost $100 or more now in Canada so I only have 2. I wasn’t sure about what to do about the salvage end of the fabric. The materials are so expensive here so experimenting is hard. Japanese embroidery Center only teaches traditional ways (no short cuts) but this is more accessible to young/new embroiderers. Thank you as always for the work you out into videos and researching for this!

Thank you so much for showing how to mount the material to the frame. Mystery solved! Peace & Happiness!
I buy threads at the workshop where I work. I don't sell thread at my workshop, so if you want thread, I've listed the shop in the description section.

You can ecommend those in North America and even Europe to go to Japanese Embroidery Center website for international shopping of Japanese embroidery supplies like thread and needles. They are expensive though but easier than trying to order from Japanese sites if you don’t read Japanese. Thanks for finding the resources in Japanese though! Wish I spoke it - especially as translation is not always accurate for specific words about embroidery.

I've come across a few sites that sell filament silk threads, if you're still looking. Not very big selections in most of the places, but even just an Etsy search for untwisted or flat filament silk has yielded quite a few results.
