The original Degner curve 🤩 Suzuka has such an excepcional flow in its layout, but especially on its original form. John Hugenholtz mastery at design. It would be a dream of mine to see what the OG track (the last curve as it was, this Degner curve, the old 130R) could bring with current cars/bikes, adding all the necessary safety measures (runoff areas, tecpro barriers, etc).

I was today years old when I realized Suzuka wasn't always the same layout

Yeah the big majority of the corners have been modified from the original layout. The only ones that haven’t I think are the little kink before the hairpin, the hairpin itself and 200r after said hairpin

1:18 Actually a shame really that they removed that hairpin. It fits the flow of the track much more.

It's a sweeper not a hairpin

the corner after this is a hairpin but not the one at the timestamp
@AlonsoRules Жыл бұрын
they probably did it to create more run off

They didn’t get rid of it though? It’s turn 11.

exactly, Degner curve was changed into the technical 2-turn sweeper that it is today as part of the modifications that were deemed necessary to make the track suitable for the 1987 Japan GP.

Holy I’m fearing for the driver’s life every second of watching this video. Insane how exposed they were compared to today’s standards

You should see onboard of the ‘67 German GP. It’s on YT somewhere. This is almost nothing compared to that.
