There are Japanese descendants in Davao and a Japanese school too. I think they have a place called Little Tokyo in Tugbok District Davao, that's the place where many Japanese who worked in Abaca Plantations during pre-WW2.

Davao City is great with it's special charm, but I recommend you see the Davao provinces as well. Davao Occidental's got the coastlines, Davao del Sur has Mount Apo, Davao del Norte's got bananas, especially Panabo City, Tagum City's got palm tress and a giant Christmas tree, Davao de Oro's got breathtaking mountains, while Davao Oriental has some beaches and coastlines worth checking. And oh, try checking Mati City as well. By the way, plenty of Japanese people used to live and work in Davao in the 1900s. They practically built Davao City and to some extent, the Davao provinces. Madayaw nga mabuhay sa Davao, Mana-san!
