Thank you very much. I was looking for this explanations for months. That's why in anime people pronounce "OMOU" with clear U at the end and also pronounce "REIDO" (Raid) with clear I in the middle, they don't say "REEDO". this video makes it clear

Currently devouring all your old vids and waiting for more new in-depth explanation videos about other Japanese language usages in the future from you. You are a real godsend Mei. Nobody can't clarify our confusion like you do. Keep up the good work.

Watching him talk about the tricky "お" reminds me of some tricky English words like; Nose Lose Loose

I think that the exceptions are mostly the Kun'yomi readings instead of On'yomi readings

The confusing bit for me is whether there's a difference in sound/pronunciation between ええ and えい / おお and おう. Is there no difference (except for exceptions like you mentioned at the end), is there such a small difference that only native speakers can hear it, or is there a clear difference?

Do the sounds "oo" and "ou" are the same when you say them ? For exemple "Ousama" (king) and "OOkami" (wolf) : Do the OU of OUsama and the OO of OOkami are the same sounds ? Or is there any difference ? Thank you

Hi Mei, thank you for the explanation on long vowels, especially for えい. I understand that for せんせい and とけい, it's just the え sound for longer. But what about when a word ends with -ていました for example. Or べんきょうしています。When I hear people say it, I hear the て and then い sound, not just the て sound for longer.
@raufmeister Жыл бұрын
usually they omit the い sound してます, those are the exeptions, those rules are not a general rule at all as well you need to listen how natives say it and memorize it rather than follow rules

ありがとう ! May I ask.. What is the purpose of the little え at the end of the word. To elongate certain vowels? But which?

Hello sir, I want to ask why う (u) in とうきょう, spell "O" rather than "U"?, thank you.

For conjugations like 聞いて, it the ki-i technically a long vowel, or separate?
@Gadottinho2 жыл бұрын
now that you said, to me it doesn't seem to be a long vowel
@SNK931 Жыл бұрын
it is same as learning music notes
@Gadottinho2 жыл бұрын
I think my problem is elongating too much :/ and also, is the pronunciation of あん like in さん something like /ɐ̃/? in my language there is this sound and to me it sounds exactly the same, maybe a little more open it's so bad that there arent many studies about the vowel in japanese, I doubt that the /a/ sound is always the same, when japanese people is speaking english they usually can pronunce the schwa with the /ɐ/ sound, that is supposed to not even exist in japanese... oh so the majority "o" and "e" long vowel comes from assimilation from "e" and "o" with "i" and "u", it's just like spanish or portuguese, where like in portuguese words written as "madeira" are in a lot of words and places both in portugal and africa, and brazil, is pronounced as madera, which is how it's written in spanish... tho it's not a long vowel
