The fact that he finds more joy in a fictional character than real people says a lot about how bad this man has been treated. That’s so sad, and sadly I think many others are in the same boat. I follow him on twitter and read his tweets, he's a kind man. I find his story and every interviews very inspiring. He had a sad past that left him broken and hurting, but he picked himself back up with the help of his wife. Since he's not hurting anyone by marrying Hatsune Miku, I personally think he is more deserving of respect and that he is more of a man than bad people who would abuse or cheat on their partners. It's sad that he was bullied enough to be so traumatized, but I'm glad he found his own happiness despite all that. He even encourages people who would love to marry fictional characters not to be afraid and to embrace their love for them. Wishing him and people like him all the best. ❤️

He is hurting himself. Living in delusion is not a good solution to self-hatred. It is similar to the trans shit, they hate themselves so much the only thing left to do is change their entire physiology. It is closely related mental illness cause by self-hatred. The sad state of mental health services in Japan is partly to blame for this. But he could have worked through it... Instead, he is now most likely never going getting to resolve his trauma, and find a real life partner. This guy now resigns himself to a life of never ending loneliness with people like you cheering him on for it. Nobody wants to live in a fake delusional state, and he knows somewhere that is what he is doing. But he thinks that is all that is possible for him, thanks to not only bullies that traumatized him but people that pretend that this is fine, it is not. He is going to die, never knowing what it was like to be loved by a partner, to love someone. And you want to celebrate this? It is potentially even more cruel than his bullies, because it is far more sinister when it comes disguised as support. It is not supportive, lying to people to placate their delusions is not kind it is deeply cruel.

His story interested me a lot. I was bullied at school because i felt (and i fall ) in love just with fictional characters. I believed of having some mental illness because of that. I believed of being the only person feeling this kind to emotion. But after found others like me on the Internet and saw this guy now i feel of being a normal person and i am more in peace with myself 😊. Fictiosexuality is really underrated and misunderstood. It deserves more analysis and attention.

It doesn’t necessarily mean physically but mentally. When my daughter was little she carried a stuffed toy dog with her every place. It made her feel connected and grounded in unfamiliar situations. It helped her feel safe. It seems like this is what this man is also doing...after being bullied for so long, he's created his own friend to carry with him in tough moments. It might be easier to love his 2d being because she will never hurt him. He said it saved his life, so he must have had suicidal thoughts in the past, and that is awful & sad. What needs to be fixed is the culture of adult bullying in the work place. No one should feel alone like that man did.

This. It says more about the society a person lives in than it does about them, that they get to that point in their mental health where their only hope is in a fictional character. Sadly Japan still doesn't have a good track record of dealing with mental illnesses, I've heard it's much more stigmatised and swept under the rug over there :/

Also, this is gonna be an unusual parallel but as a doctor, I appreciated how non-judgemental you were when you were interviewing him. Patients come to me with all sorts of stories. Embarrassing stories, dark stories, and many things they wouldn’t tell anyone else. Whilst someone else’s world may be externally inconsistent from your own, you have to realise as a doctor and as a human that there is an internal logic and consistency within the context of that person’s whole life. Just like this gentleman, on the outside, the initial impression may be “what, he married Hatsune Miku?!” - but just asking him, it made total sense in his world. It’s hard to be judgmental to people when you bring yourself to think, “if I had the same set of circumstances and I was just wired a little differently, I would be exactly the same.” It genuinely means a lot to the people who you accept non-judgementally, to be heard like that.

This was an amazing interview, thank you for providing us great content. I feel so sad for this man, it's heartbreaking to think what he's been through, but I do believe this is not the best solution to deal with his trauma. Yes, he seems to be genuinely happy but to me it looks more like hiding the problems under the carpet which isn't healthy on the long term. I'm saying this with all due respect because this man looks like a really great, honest and kind person, but he should get real help from friends and family. I hope one day he'll meet a girl who treats him as well as Miku-chan and I wish him all the best.

I think it's easy to laugh at something so outlandish at first, but I understand the pain in his decision in not marrying a real person. I admire his tenacity to continue on with Miku. He seems like such a sweet guy, it doesn't matter that he is living a little differently than most people, we all have our own things that make us happy, and our own things that help us cope, so as long as they aren't hurting anyone then we shouldn't bully or tear anyone down for this kind of thing. Especially given that a lot of the time real people being cruel is what may have caused them to become attached to something fictional or something that is different to the norm, that goes for most of these kinds of things. People are just too judgemental, if someone is a kind person and likes something that isn't hurting anyone then leave them be and let them be happy.

He's married to her because he needed someone, which he never got, making him look for anything that could help him, and he found it with Miku, a friend that wouldn't say mean things to him, wouldn't judge him nor would leave him. I personally understand all he says because I don't like the majority of flesh-and-blood people nowadays. It's so hard to find someone who isn't fake. Doing something like this sounds a thousand times better than having to deal with a real relationship (to me). I have never been hurt; I'm not saying this because of revenge. Glad to see this humble gentleman still living happily with his wife, Miku. I remember hearing his story first time and honestly, I’m deeply saddened and enraged in fury that there’s people like this in work or anywhere bullying an innocent life cuz they either have nothing better in their life or enjoys picking on the weak. Wherever they are now, I hope karma does come to them since those sins done deserve to be forgiven, especially when it’s bullying towards someone with mental health issues. Fast forward today, glad this man is being positively treated by everyone, mostly his students at the middle school he teaches in, and glad there’s a lot of people online coming forth to give this man a lot of positive love and support for his strength of encouragement. And I agree with his stance on fictional marriage. Whether real or not, just find what your heart truly desires and what truly makes you happy. But in my book since I have a strong obsession with female Corrin of Fire Emblem Fates, just make sure you don’t strand far away from reality due to consequences ahead of ya. And when it comes to Japanese V-Tubers like Hololive, know the difference between characters and real humans that voices them. In result, just treat your fictional partner as a comfort support like how a squeezing stressball helps relieve anxiety.

I'm with that guy. It's against the odd, be like that, of course. After I heard his story about bullying, I totally understand. And wish him all best. He's obviously not crazy, he just found the best way how to enjoy his life. 🙂

Seems Miku accepts Kondo-san for who he is without judgement. Who would not want that? He's not hurting anyone, let's celebrate his happiness!

She cannot accept him, she is a doll, objects do not have feelings, it's his fantasy. It's sad seeing a human being looking for affection from an object.

As someone who has been helped by the entity that is Miku during my darkest times, I can relate. Maybe not to the point of marriage, but it is what it is. Glad he found his happiness and people should just shut it and let it go.

wtf dude Miku was supposed to marry MEEEEEEE! Ah well, there's plenty of Mikus in the sea. Good on him for not caring what people think. he was bullied and somehow was still strong enough to marry a virtual girl, that takes guts to do and stand up for and i dont wanna hear otherwise. Sidenote: I feel this man. ive not gone a day in roughly 12 years that hasnt been filled with some kind of anxiety or sadness, and Miku unironically has been a small but shining light in my life. its honestly the reason i clicked on the video lol, love my Miku, shes helped me through a lot with her music and games. Kudos to this man, sincerely.
