A female of Japanese Paradise Flycatcher (Terpsiphone atrocaudata, family Monarchidae) repeatedly splashing into a shallow spring in a low mountain to have a quick bath. At first, the cautious bird hovered over the waterhole again and again. When the coast was clear, she started bathing. Between the intervals of instant bathing, she quickly returned to her favourite perch on the shore. The unique style of bathing was replayed at 3x slow-motion. Captured with my old trailcam in the sunny midafternoon (around 14:10 PM) of mid-August 2022 in Japan.
Meanwhile, a Willow tit (Poecile montanus, family Paridae) was bathing, in the orthodox style, in an outflow stream at the far end of the pond. And there was another species of bird (unidentified) with pale brown plumage bathing together in the shallow pond near the camera. It looked like a pale thrush (Turdus pallidus, family Turdidae), but the winter bird cannot be seen in midsummer. Their orthodox style of bathing was replayed at 3x slow-motion with 150% zoom-in.
