I don't think I have seen anyone who sharpens the Japanese style blades strop. Even with a very light touch, there is a burr at 8000 grit. With a 16,000 grit stone from Shapton, there is no burr. As for diamond stones, I haven't noticed any scratches, or at least they are easy to polish out as you move up in grits, even 120 grit scratches.

So Japanese blades do not get a secondary bevel?

How much loss of strength would you get when grinding the initial angle with a hollow grind on an an 8 inch or 10 inch grinder (e.g. Tormek T4 or T8)?

Did you flatten the 320 grit stone with a 400 grit Atoma? Is that effective?
