I didn’t see anyone in the comments explaining the English names, so for anyone who doesn’t understand them: Bulbasaur - bulb (like the part of a plant) + dinosaur Ivysaur - ivy + dinosaur Venusaur- Venus (this part likely comes from the type of plant, or from the word vines) + dinosaur Charmander - chat + salamander Charmeleon - char + chameleon Charizard - chat + lizard Squirtle - squirt + turtle Wartortle - war + tortoise Blastoise - blast + tortoise Hope that helps!

"A blue-eyed jerk." I like that one the best because it reminds me of when I was young. At that time, I hated Charizard because of the attitude and disobedience Ash's Charizard had in the anime. Him making Ash lose the Kanto Pokémon League was the reason I got Blue Version instead of Red (because he was on Red Version's box and cartridge) and also the reason why I enjoyed him getting his head stuck in a playground pipe (from the short film "Pikachu's Vacation").

Blastoise's name in English is a combination of the words 'Blast' a destructive wave of compressed air and 'Tortoise' a Herbivorous land dwelling turtle.

For some background on the english names: BULBASAUR A combination of bulb and dinosaur, bulb meaning the seed like item on it's back so bulb+saur=bulbasaur IVYSAUR Combination of ivy(I type of leafy vine plant the grows around other trees) and sauron from dinosaur VENUSAUR Again uses saur from dinosaur along with venus from the venus fly trap plant CHARMANDER takes char(which means to burn something) and takes mander from salamander(a small lizard) CHARMELEON again uses char along with meleon from the chameleon(a slightly larger lizard) CHARIZARD again uses char and izard from lizard SQUIRTLE Squirting turtle WARTORTLE Combines three words(WAR,TORtoise, turTLE) BLASTOISE combines blast and tortoise

At least we know what her Pokemon would be, a Charmander named Hamilton. Sometimes I wish Pokemon were real, you don't have to battle them as both the games, movies, and anime show that they make great companions that are able to adapt to your lifestyle and hobbies. I believe that's why people have grown up loving them because of the fact that they are a little friend that people keep with them and everyone has a favorite that has always reside with them.

One thing to understand about the English names is a lot of them are puns on the animal they're based on and the type of Pokemon they are.
