This song was written during a "craze" for dreamy, "orienta"l fox trots, the biggest seller around that time was the 1919 Dardanella, which was set in the Dardanelles, Greece. At this time, "Oriental" could refer to Asia, India, Turkey, etc. This Duo-Art piano roll is from 1920, when the song first became a hit. The chorus is an absolutely brilliant use of a melodic phrase played over and over, yet changing each time. The pianists listed are Morton and Mauder,

Thanks for posting this Aeolian version of this! I don't know who "Mander" or "Mander" or "Maunder" was, but could "Morton" have been George Morton, who made many rolls for the Standard company in New Jersey in the early 1920s? (on the Arto, Voco, and SingA labels, for example). I don't know much else about him.

I suspect "Morton" was "Jelly Roll" Morton, who made many jazz Piano Rolls during that era. Cheers.
