I absolutely LOVE persimmon, but I've never seen it used in a savory side dish like this. The dishes are so beautiful and I'm grateful you taught us how to say and write "kaki" so I can look for it when I'm in Japan 😁 Thank you, Ryusei-san! This was a great video 😄

In Japan, we add persimmon to the salad too! Yes, please look for "kaki"柿. And I have to say one thing, in japanese oyster is also called "kaki"牡蠣. You're welcome! Thank you for watching and your comment😊

@@kyodokan.japanese.cuisine That would be so tasty in a salad! What a fun idea 😁 Haha Oh that's good to know! Are they pronounced exactly the same? Or is there a pitch difference or one vowel is longer for one? I do plan to try oysters as well so I suppose "kaki" is a useful word to know for two dishes 😂
@kyodokan.japanese.cuisineАй бұрын
No, they are pronounced the same. But, these pronounces are different from regions😂. But, Japanese people probably misunderstand them. And almost japanese kwon the English name of oyster. I hope you'll enjoy "kaki"! And I have one question, do you or your husband like japanese sake which is made from the rice?
@AiraXueАй бұрын
@@kyodokan.japanese.cuisine Oh that's amazing that Japanese people know the English word for oyster. I feel like a lot of Japanese people have the talent to learn many languages! Ah, my husband and I don't drink alcohol so we haven't tried sake 😅 Do you enjoy sake?
@kyodokan.japanese.cuisineАй бұрын
Yes, oyster is so loved in Japan. Of course, I like it too. I hope so, but now in Japan, if we make a little bit mistake for example grammar or pronounce, a lot of people say he/ she mistakes. So, many people don't speak English or other languages. I'd like to change this negative situation! Oh, thank you for teaching me! Yes, I like and I'm proud of our country's sake. But, you have other chances of non alcohol drink too. And there are lots of cafe!! Next video, I'll introduce about japanese tea a bit.

Amazing video ! Persimmon is also called kaki in French 😊 I really love it but I have never made a recipe with it, I always eat it plain! I can't find bitter melon, what do you think I could replace it with to make the recipe ?
@kyodokan.japanese.cuisineАй бұрын
Thank you! The French name is same in Japan!! Yes, I usually eat it plain as well. We can make it just skip the bitter melon, but if you add something, I recommend cucumber or spinach(boiled and remove the water)😉. I hope you'll enjoy it. Have a nice week end!!

Konnichiwa Ryusei! :) Persimmon is another favorite for my girlfriend and me. We have two small persimmon trees (variety is Nakita's Gift). They are very soft when ripe. We've never tried eating any when they're under ripe, but next year I will try slicing one to see how it tastes. These are wonderful recipes and look very delicious! Arigato! :D

In my language, it's called "pisang kaki". For the longest time, I thought it meant "banana leg" (literal translation) but it turns out the "kaki" is Japanese!

If I can not get daikon where I live, what could I use instead?

I have seen persimmon but dared not try them,do they taste like mangoes? I am going to try eating them ,how do you know that they are ripe,ready to eat?
@kyodokan.japanese.cuisineАй бұрын
The taste is depending on ripeness, if it's ripe, the texture is similar to mangoes. Probably, persimmon becomes orange. We can eat it. If it's too soft, it's too ripe. I hope you'll enjoy it:)
