The winged dragon is from European mythology and regarded as an evil being, eg Satan being depicted as a dragon, St George rescuing a damsel in distress from the winged dragon. Whereas the serpent dragon is a being of Eastern mythology symbolizing heavenly-imperial authority and considered good or auspicious. Eg the serpent dragon on the robes of emperors, bringing rain during times of drought, etc. This is the key to understanding the two different dragons being discussed here. Imu being the western/evil dragon, the D clan and its allies presumably the eastern/good dragon.

It can vary, as draconic forces/deities have likewise often been worshipped and/or seen as auspicious even in Western circles of religion, folklore, and philosophy throughout history. But as common wisdom and history will demonstrate, the gods and heroes of yesteryear often become the devils and villains of tomorrow with the passage of time and the changing of the ruling guard. While I do agree Oda may trying to frame Imu vs Joyboy on one level as a feud between West and East, I don't think it'll ultimately boil down to anything so one-sided or simple as one side being "good" or "bad." As we saw with Kaido ( and Orochi ), dragons/serpents could just as often become the villains of the story in Eastern tales, depending on the telling....and who's in charge. Ultimately, I'm willing to bet money that the resolution to the underlying conflict running through the core of the One Piece narrative will come down to foregoing a black/white model of morality in favor of Taoist philosophy....black and white existing in equilibrium, flowing into one another, creating harmony and balance.

About Dragon, he's known as the Insurgent Serpent. In Mayan mythology there's a god called Kukulkan, which is a green winged serpent that controls the winds and storms. A lot of us in the west theorise that this might be his devil fruit.

There's a connection also between the name Nerona and Nero (Nerone in italian), the crazy Roman Emperor who set fire to Rome. Legends across history connects his figure to the devil. It is said that he even died and then reborn as a devil. He is also connected to 666. Mephistopheles in particular is associated with him and the powers of this devil figure are granting immortality and powers to his adepts. If this is correct then also IMU may derive from latin and may be the short form of "Infernus Umbra Mundi" that means "the infernal shadow on the world". Shadow, evil and slavery IMU vs the Sun, good and freedom, NIKA. The devil can manage flames, has sharp teeth and has its tail arrow shaped at the end. It is associated to the constellations of Draco and to the Serpent. The Draco constellation has 5 main stars (gorosei) that are positioned around Polaris, the northern star (IMU). Usually his figure has kind of draconic and serpent features. In addition all IMU's related characters are "demonic" and even those with the same eye pattern than IMU are always demon related, like Stussy. Mihawk has the same eyes as IMU but his sword is cross shaped (the Christian simble of salvation) so he may be a devil from the Nerona family turned into a good person for some reason or redeemed by somebody. Soooo i think IMU may be looking as a Japanese styled devil.

Somehow I just can't see Imu beeing a dragon, either western style or eastern. We just had a huge arc based around taking down a dragon, so it would feel a bit repetitive and redundant if we found out there's ANOTHER dragon we need to take down. I could see them being a Demiurge, though that still may be too similar to Kaidou. I think whatever Imu ends up being, it's probably not something that has been seen before, and most likely not something anyone has guessed at yet

Well Kaido being killed by another Dragon makes sence to me.( only a god can kill another god logic. Wonder Woman movie) how this would occur I refer you to find the Dressrossa alliance vs Doffy theory( Kaido is the Bull that Luffy rode and Doffy killed, Imu in this case) But also would show the superiority between Dragon models. Kaido was fish. Monkey D Dragon would be Bird Model Dragon( Feather Serpent as the famous theory suggest) Imu being Earth Dragon Tiamat of short, with an Appearance of a Behemut checks in, as it is far away in appearance yet can fall in on the Fruit Category.

I think imu's transformation is an umibozo, a demon of the sea. The silhouette of imu's transformation looked very similar to the shadows of thriller bark rather than that of a dragon. And imu's tail looked like a devil's tail from those 20th century cartoons

I think Oda gave us the answer in Saturn. After he spilled the beans to the BB pirates, his fighting style changes drastically and his eyes go all weird. IMO Imu took direct control over Saturn, and in his fighting style change we can glean the answer to Imu's identity. Saturn's 8 legs became all noodly, like... an octopus. Imu has 3 head spikes, 2 arms, and 3 legs. 3+2+3=8 I think the serpent reference may be related to the serpent starfish, which is a kind of star fish with octopus-like tentacles. "Red serpent star" was the name of the attack Usopp used to bring the crew together at Alabasta. After some extensive research I think I have a Yokai match. Imu is a male Koromodako and the females of his species were the dial creatures. Koromodako are cloth octopus. Capable of changing size from miniscule to massive. Large enough to swallow a ship whole. Their bodies are made of a flowing cloth like material, that can freely change it's shape. The females have a shell that they can hide inside, the males don't. He's a Kuroko-dial. Kuroko are stage hands that wear all black during a play so they can manipulate stage elements unseen.

I think this theory is great. Additionally you mentioned that the north star was the connection between the earth and the heavens and that the emperor is the earthly representative. What if that is more literal in this case and Imu has the earth god fruit. Which I think would be called the gya based on the sound in Japanese for crying and it is similar to Gaia the greek goddess of the earth, who is married to Uranaus, and Uranaus the ancient weapon is highly speculated to be in Imu's control.

In my opinion, Imu has (infinitely) many faces. Its true form is a black blob (which already is, somehow) than can turn into almost anything. A sort of "negative" version of Nika. The One Piece is going to be a pencil. The forces that make the plot are three: the ink (Imu), which corrupted the world; the rubber (Rufy), that is going to cancel Imu; the pencil (One Piece) that is going to rewrite history of humanity from the start, in the new era.

I believe the world serpent that dorry and broggy mentioned is Red Line. In Norse mythology, The world serpent or Jormungand is believed to coil around the Midgard, which we can say human world. As the “blood” word usually refers to red color. What does encircle the world of one piece with a red blood colour? It’s Red Line. Also, Jormungand’s eternal enemy is Thor or god of thunder, which first comes in mind is Enel. This might be hinted that Enel will go back to the world and has his part in destroying the Red Line.

Xebec’s son & Garp adopted Dragon after God Valley, just like he adopted Ace & Rodger knew he would due to the aforementioned event. Ace has two D. Clan parents and I’m betting Luffy has two D. Clan parents too: Monkey D. “Luffy’s Mom” and Rocks D. Dragon Plus, Oda always makes a point about parental resemblance as well. Luffy is the splitting image of Garp, yet Dragon looks entirely different. And unless you skeptics think Dragon’s mom/Garp’s wife was a super ugly no-eyebrows big nose woman, then I really believe Dragon resembles Rocks on purpose.

Can you find similarities between the Ocean's Dream Arc and this current Arc symbolism.? Do you think the Rainbow Mist Arc also has something to tell us about the location of the One Piece or Ancient Kingdom? Although Filler Arcs or Movies, plenty of hints have been given. Could this be true as well that D characters in One Piece have dragon in their name and IMU is trying to kill every other D member except him and has replaced the once kings allied with Joyboy 800 years ago with the current ones but has kept the name "Celestial dragons"?

And has basically reversed the 2 D's. 800 years ago people used to associate D devils with flying dragons. Now after 800 years imu has normalized dragons and socially engineered the populous to associate devils with D in their name. Maybe because these people with names currently with D in their name wore like a Medal 800 years ago. You cab only add D in your name if you defeat a dragon.

This is a great theory but I think that imu is going to be a serpent like dragon as there are a few myths that I think Oda might be pulling from to craft Imu's powers. First is the garden of eden story where a serpent tricks adam and eve into eating the fruit og knowledge. Then there is as you mentioned Jörmungandr who is serpent like. There is also the Egyptian snake of chaos who fought against the sun god ra Aposis/Apep. Then the is the Ryujin the dragon god and ruler of the sea. There are probably others as well but the main point is that a lot of the mythological inspirations that oda might be taking from are serpentine.

Something to add as further evidence for your theory: Chapter 710 "To Greenbit" has a dragon in the cover, and O in One Piece is written like Yin and Yang.
