Business executives often use English, rather than their own native language , to much sure "everyone is on the same page". This blunt type of outlining of who is to do what and why is used because saying the equivalent in their own language could be culturally inappropriate and impossibly rude.

Sometime ago I heard that learning a new language makes your brain function differently. I believe this is also true when you speak a different language. In particular, Japanese spoken by women makes their voices sound much softer and more feminine.
@n.b.35213 ай бұрын
Many people code-switch their personalities/behavior when speaking a different language (though it might depend on which languages they are). My mother is quite prim and proper in English, but gets markedly more animated and rough when speaking Acadian French. And I code-switch exactly the same way this woman does between English and Japanese. It just feels natural somehow.

@@pietwarkawani9616 Not agreeing or disagreeing with the comment, but although he said veil, based on context clues he meant 'façade.' Nothing to do with clothing-he meant Japanese essentially wear a façade in public, at jobs, school, and that a façade of a higher level of demureness from women in public is somewhat expected, etc., although being demure isn't (necessarily) in their true nature. They remove the façade when they're alone. When they're alone and they can relax with no façades-THAT's who they truly are, with no forced politeness, fear of judgement, etc. Of course, some people are naturally born very polite, and so for them it may be no façade, but for most born an average amount of polite, the *degree* to which they are polite in public, is a façade. Some women will act more demure in public, but alone are a more bossy person, or are still demure, but a little less demure in private. I think everyone's façade has some of the real them in it-but it's only the 'publically acceptable parts' of the real them in the façade-the rest is a false self or filler they put towards the public (and sometimes even their friends and family). Not sure if you were trolling, or if English isn't your first language, so I approached the confusion of the word 'veil' with sincerity. If you were just trolling however, I hope you can still appreciate my sincerity to help someone and respond with politeness yourself, since you wish more places had the kind of politeness Japan had.

I can’t count how many times people have said personality changes based on language. Your personality does not change - your behavior does. You’re not an a-hole in English and then a saint in Japanese, you’re one or the other the whole time. If you don’t believe me, watch a Japanese person speaking naturally at home, and then answering the phone to talk to a customer/boss, etc. Their attitude will change, their pitch will go up and octave, and they may even stand up if they had been sitting. That’s not a character change.
