Great to see Will carving and hear how he goes about it. Also good to hear the chat on where to learn and the great generosity of the Japanese in sharing their knowledge. I have also had the same experience after one (very short) trip to Japan and just talking about the things I love and have tried in the different Japanese crafts with Japanese people. Everyone I spoke to was encouraging and enthusiastic about the fact that I was interested enough to try the different trades. For mokuhanga, I have always carved on shina but recently received a piece of magnolia to try. The light has also just gone on that I have some cherry rounds that I had purchased some time ago for pyrography so will give those a go with mokuhanga as well. Thanks to all for another informative video.

Loved the comments on cultural appropriation. Oddly, I have noticed the same thing here in Canada with our first nations. I truly believe that when one shares cultural activities one fosters understanding between cultures. Fortunately when one engages in activities like mokuhanga, it does not prevent any one else from engaging in those same activities.

Excellent carving, good video work and interesting conversation. It would be interesting to see how Will prints using dry pigments at some point when there's time, but thanks to all.

Thanks for this video. In carving the color blocks do you cut on the line or inside the line?

The videos are by David Bull and you’ll find he discusses a lot of the printers we have mentioned. Check out Will’s Instagram @francishanga for more info too
