Great lesson, Misa! Thank you very much! By the way, "I wish I did" has a present meaning, not past: I wish I could speak Japanese (now), I wish I had more friends (now). Use "I wish + had V3" to talk about the past: I wish I had studied before the exam. I wish I'd studied Japanese instead of German (10 years ago). Keep up the good work!

- と、なら、ば can't be used about something happened in the past while たら is possible. - たら is used when you request something [~たら、~て(ください)], but 'adj/ある/いる + ば、~て' form is also possible. - ば를 사용한 조건문은 일반적으로 ば 뒤에 좋은 의미의 말이 온다. - 'Aたら、B'가 B에 중점을 두고 있다면, 'Aば、B'는 A에 중점을 둔 느낌이 있음. (ば는 이것만이 유일한 방법이라고 하는 느낌?? Advice 관련 느낌이 강함 9:53) e.g. どうすれば、日本語が上手になりますか?- 어떻게 하면 일본어 고수가 될 수 있나요?(실력을 늘릴 수 있나요?) 静かだったら もし=만약, 가정적인 상황에서만 쓰임 23:48

Thanks so much for doing a series about this! It's so nice to understand the differences between all the "if" and "when"s, especially when your native language is one that only has one "if", ha ha. One thing that I did notice is in this video is that you said that you shouldn't talk about the past with と, but in the lesson about と, you had mentioned that you could use it to talk about situations where the outcome was surprising. (E.g. 人形の髪を切ると、また髪が伸びちゃった。was one of the examples you used.) So now I'm a little confused as to whether I should use it or not in this situation.

This might be a little advanced, but in this context I would like to know how to say the following expressions (actually 2 and 3 is enough), because I was told several expressions that were different, so I am not sure which one is correct: (1) If... infinitive verb... , I will + infinitive verb... example: If I get a lot of money, I will buy a car. (2) If... simple past verb..., I would + infinitive verb... example: If I had a lot of money, I would buy a car. (3) If... had + participle verb..., I would have + participle verb... example: If I had won a lot of money, I would've bought a car.

Honestly, in English, we have way more tenses so we have to think more simply. For example both 3 and 2 in my mind in japanese would be the same sentence 1)お金をもらったら車を買う。2,3). お金をもらうなら車を買った。 Correct me if I’m wrong. But that’s the feeling I got from it.

Yes ! Been looking forward to this one a lot. Quick question. How would one just say "would" in Japanese ? With no "if" preceding it. I feel like this is a conditional form that I haven't encountered yet. Because we've seen a lot of ways of saying "if", which in English would be followed by "would", but it seems like in Japanese "if" is followed by regular conjugation. So how would one say something like "That would be good" or "I would love that" or "I would definitely do that", etc... in sentences where there's no "if" clause preceding ? Or asking someone "What would you do in this situation ?" ? Basically cases where you use "would" without any conditional clause preceding it. Very curious about this.
@JapaneseAmmowithMisa

We simply use たら or と思う (I think) or nothing. E.g. I wouldn't go there (if I were you) = 私だったら / 私なら 行かない。 (watashi + dattara / nara + ikanai) I would definitely do that = 絶対にする!(zettai-ni suru) = I will definitely do that. If you really want to add the nuance of "WOULD", you have to add the context like I would definitely do that IF there's a chance. = 機会があったら、絶対にする。 (I think) you would like it. = 気に入ると思うよ。 (ki-ni-iru to omou yo) :)
