This is the most beautiful, amazing small Japanese maple garden I've ever seen! You must be the envy of the neighborhood! I have only become interested in Japanese maples and live in Jacksonville Florida. They must thrive here because I see them in the nurseries. Did you do all the planning for your garden yourself? All your plants and trees look so lovely and healthy and every inch is a true work of art! Thank you for so much beauty displayed in such a small space! Why do you have so many "views" and so few subs?! I'm a new sub because your video is too beautiful to forget! kristi

This video came as a suggestion because I just started getting into Japanese maples. Having grown up in the northeast I saw them in people’s yards all over. I moved to zone 9 and just until recently did not think I could keep them. Now I know some varieties I can keep! A part of me wishes you could tell us what each tree is but a huge part of me says not necessary because it’s about the beauty of the garden itself. What an amazing job you have done! Love the small scale rock work with a couple small bonsai JM’s!! Would love to see a video of your garden in the spring then one in the fall. Kudos to you and keep up the great work!! Truly inspirational!!!

I started growing JM's from cuttings and now have 12 which survived. My Dad gave me a Sycamore Maple sapling back in 2000 which we potted up and it has grown well. By 2016 it was about 12 feet tall. This May, I pruned it down to 2 feet leaving a side branch and it has responded very well with 5 new branches and many leaves and is 4 feet tall now in a large pot. I even have it appear in some of my YT videos as it's been around for so long :)

What an amazing garden - truly spectacular! Can I ask what zone you're in? I live in zone 6 and during late July, early August, my Bloodgood Japanese Maple in my front yard (afternoon sun) tends to brown at the edges of the leaves and just doesn't do well at all. The frustrating thing is that you read online about this and it could either be too much water or not enough. I do tend to water it a few times a week when it gets really hot, so just not sure why this happens. Any advice? It should be noted that the smaller Bloodgood I have in my backyard does just fine, although it gets more morning sun. Wondering if you've ever had similar issues?

We prune in mid Spring, move, and sometimes replace. When we remove/replace something we give it to a friend and replace it with something more exciting or more dwarf. Some are placed strategically and far enough apart to allow them to grow out. Most everything is considered slow growing or dwarf to reduce the amount of pruning needed.

It's Acer shirasawanum Autumn Moon. We had it growing in a container for a few years until we put it in the ground. This variety is very winter hardy and stands up to sun better than Aureum. If you can't find Autumn Moon then moonrise is a good substitute.

@Japanesemaplegarden9 жыл бұрын
fakeusa Acer shirasawanum 'Autumn Moon'. A great selection for season long interest and Winter hardiness. The only downfall is that the yellow fall color is short lived and can easily brown out before falling. But it looks so amazing all spring and summer that you can easily forgive the fall performance. Tolerates sun very well in NE OH.

RABS We put any small pots in the garage for Winter in a large plastic container with peat in-between the pots and pine bark mulch on the surface. Large pots stay outside in the same place or a protected spot all winter. We make a burlap tube filled with oak leaves and wrap it around the pot. It is sewed closed with twine. This provides a 12" insulation around the pot that keeps the pot from breaking and keeps the roots from getting too cold. We add extra pine bark mulch to the surface of the roots as an extra measure of protection.
