@@akhehehe4302 I'd say 'gozaimashita' is correct when you finished watching the video and the lesson she gave you is completed. You would probably use 'gozaimasu' at the beginning of the lesson or when the lesson is about to start or when someone agreed to give you a lesson.

@@salurionfine7813 Kind of... it's the difference between thanking someone for something they're doing now or will do in the future, vs thanking them for something that they already did. For example, at the end of a meal you say gozaimashita because they're already finished serving you the meal.
@gerald85733 жыл бұрын
I understood the second one more like: "I thank you again for having done that" So I still want to express that I am even now (sorta in hindsight) thankfull for what the other person did a minute ago. Not "I was grateful" but "I am still grateful" I haven't stopped being grateful, I still appreciate it. Sorry for my bad English, I'm from Germany.

The way I always remember it is that arigato gozaimasu is “Thank you”, but arigato gozaimashita is “Thanks for that.” When you receive your food at a restaurant, say “arigato gozaimasu” but when you leave, say “arigato gozaimashita”

I don’t think you guys realize how much weabs fuck it up for westerners living in or visiting Japan as normal human beings, not as weaboo freaks who fetishize Japanese culture. None of the hostess or maid clubs in Chiyoda will take foreigners, for example, and it’s a direct result of sweaty neckbeard weaboos running around that neighborhood because all the gaming and manga shops are there. I’ve seen some painfully cringeworthy weabs walking around Japan, and it’s just embarrassing for everyone.

I have a question: How to know when to use the dakuten and handakuten. For example when counting bottles: 1 bottle is IPPON, 3 bottles is SANBON, 4 bottles is YONHON. I felt like it's too complicated. Is there a rule to it?
@angelbear_og9 жыл бұрын
Long Hồ Hoàng Three bottles is ぼん because the preceding sound is ん. Read about rendaku, which explains how and when the sound is changed when kanji are put together, as in はな to ばな in 生け花, and かね to がね in 黒金, etc. I don't recommend trying to memorize it all (unless you're already a linguistics genius), but it's an interesting read if you just take it casually. ^_^ Moving on... One bottle is いっぽん because the second syllable of いち is changed into a double-consonant before certain counters like this one, and you cannot double ほ or ぼ. Also applies to はち, ろく, and じゅう. You actually can just memorize them by counter, since there are only 10 counting numbers (11 being 10 + 1 again). Here is a list of some basic counters: www.tofugu.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/11/japanesecounters.pdf. You'll also see that different counters have slightly different rules, but there are patterns to be found. Someone who is Japanese can probably give better insight, but I figured I'd throw a little of what I've discovered out there to get you started. がんばって!
