Visited in summer of 1958. No wide streets. No tall buildings. A more agrarian type city. Street cars, flowers and plants on displaying throughout the city and music piped throughout the city by an apparent city PA system, playing classical Japanese music. A female friend, (Junko san) who worked in a local bar in Uguisidani (just a few blocks from my favorite Uguisidani bar) took me along for a weekend visit to her home in Mito. Her parents had a typical single small home. Her dad had a small outdoor kiln for making roof tile. It was a great visit to learn about everyday living in a typical Japanese home. Thank you JE and Mairiii san for a nostalgic visit to a 60 year newer Mito.
