Satnam in this context means Never changing, Atal. Sat means true, unwavering, as in a spindle or an arrow. Ever present. Sahs sianpa lakh hovae... This refers to here and now. In this Pauri 1. Guru Nanak is talking about how we are unable to search out God, by thought, by quiet contemplation by material possessions or by ( Sahs sianpa) wisdom.

With great respect to the person who has translated Japji Sahib into English. Please note that you cannot translate literally. Hukam rajai chalana... The word chalana does not mean walk in this context. It means to act according to God's Will. Hukmi hovan jee Hukam milae wadiye. - By God's Will be come into being and by His Will we flourish, acheive adulthood. The whole thing has to follow. I am trying to improve the translation for the English speaking public. It is not meant to offend anyone. Sat Sri Akal.

Lovely voice. But your English translation is much to be desired. Primarily the continued use of the male pronoun throughout. As the Divine has “All and no form” to give the mistaken identity as male is a real shame. Rather use: Divine, Beingness, or Sacred Mystery which have no gender, and encompass a range for the unfathomable. Else wise people will keep identifying “God” as an old man with a long white beard sitting on a cloud, and not be able to imagine beyond this. 🙏
