For all the time you have been backing Goff, this is by far your best take on his situation. Kudos...

Just run the offense and the big plays will always be there. I've liked Goff ever since he had arrived. I think he is a total well rounded NFL quarterback. His on field play and off field person is consistent with what he portrays. I enjoyed Stafford and was stunned when he got traded but my of my am I so freaking happy goff is here in Detroit.

Dan Campbell is an old school football person. He believes the trenches is where it all starts and he's 100% proved it. Investing heavily into both offensive and defense lines. He's shown the old school way has always worked and STILL works. That's why you see teams starting to copy what he's doing. In the last 30 years when has anyone ever copied what Detroit does? You don't need a dual threat QB when you have time to pass the ball, when you have RBs that have great hands to pair with the WRs and TE. Don't forget how often are the Dual threat QB's hurt. Goff is extremely durable. Id take durability over dual threat. Campbell proves having the right coach is a game changer. We've seen players in the past leave the lions and be extremely successful with other teams. It's going to take a few more years for any player that is on the Lions to get the credit they deserve because of the Lions past unfortunately. I wouldn't be surprised if the Lions win the super bowl this year and Goff STILL doesn't get the recognition he has deserved.

Bring a pocket passer is how the game was started and it's how the game is supposed to be. It's harder to be a pocket passer than a running QB.

I can guarantee if we make it to the Super Bowl and it's against the Chiefs, all we would have to do is beat them and win our first SB title and end the Cheifs 3-peat hope! That would silence all of the doubters!!! Then there would be no question! Especially if Goff wins Super Bowl MVP! On top of having an MVP season!!! Then everyone would HAVE to respect Goff!!!

When you have ppl that say "Goff will never be a elite qb" that immediately tells me they rather be entertained than win.

It irritates me that there are so many people want more entertainment than watching a competitive sport where the winner EARNS it!!! It's disgusting!

To win Goff don’t need to be a great Quarterback he just need to be great at doing his job which is to not turn over the ball, run the offense with precision and throw and get the ball into the hands of his playmakers!

Great critique of the article. IF JG is boring how is it that the Lions are so fun for everyone to watch? Love how you dissected the article and pointed out all the other QBs that won the SB without being flashy. SPOT on about the McVey torching JG and I believe he still does it to this day. Stafford would not have fit the new Lions.

This was excellent David. I’ve almost come to believe that we may soon begin to see the pendulum swing back towards incredibly accurate pocket passers who can carve up the opposition, as 55+million dollar scrambling quarterbacks continue to spend parts of seasons injured and unavailable. I think it’s going to take only one serious or career-ending injury to a top scrambling quarterback for the league to sort of reverse course. I want to give you props…. You clearly know what you are talking about but earlier in your ‘career’, a few verbal habits made for a less clear presentation. I can hear that you have clearly worked to improve your delivery, and it makes for a much more effective presentation. I used to have a hard time listening, as there were many pods that the repeated sentence “think about it” or other verbal crutches that you had made you sound less knowledgeable that you are. You have come a long way, and this was excellent.

Dude the Bengals had some bad ass gunslingers at QB. Kenny Andrrson lost to Joe Montana in SB16 ( at the silver dome) Then Boomer Esiason lost to Joe Montana 8 years later. So Cincinnati had to play MR SUPERBOWL himself. I feel this Lions Squad is going out like the 1950s squad. We’re going to SUPERBOWLS.

Goff is flashy, to those who really aren't casuals, Goff may not throw the prettiest balls, but he fits the tightest windows consistently and with no fear or uncertainty, which makes him so difficult to defend. The reason why Goff doesn't get his flowers is because he doesn't put his personality to the fore the way the 'elite' qbs the media loves to promote

I heard a rumor that the Vikings would trade McCarthy for Hooker. I would make that trade for one simple reason, age. Hooker is older and deserves now time while JJ is younger and has time to develop. It would be a good even ended trade.
