I understand what Leto was trying to do here. Honestly, he did his best with what he was given. That look though, was ridiculous. The Joker doesn't care about money. He doesn't need bling. He's the antithesis of those things. The tattoos? Not necessary. They tried to make a Joker that was everything that he actually wasn't. Focused on material objects and "things". I think if given a better script and they focused the Joker on who he really was, that Leto may have been a great Joker. I feel bad that he was really excited for the role, but the script and look of the Joker given to him, wasn't fantastic.

Maybe coz Suicide Squad movie didn't know what to do with The Joker. Also The Joker didn't add much to the plot or main story except that he exists in it. Suicide Squad itself doesn't have much going on anyway so I'd say they could have made The Joker kind of like a plot device? and make him the true villain of the film instead.
